That’s sad news.
Always remember his displays at OW especially in AR501.

1996. Not sure of exact date but on or around the time of the DX Spitfire 60th Anniversary show.
Interesting that this video is still available as Steve Connor was asked to pull it from his site.
Looks like it’s still popular though! 🙂

“Undercarridge Hebel Eine Klebrige Spitze War Es Sir?” 😮
Don’t recall reading that G-HUNN made a wheels up landing.
Mark, did this happen at Charles Church’s private strip?

I agree with both Lancman & Damien.
It’s a great documentary about the BoB but falls short of what it claims to be about.
Pearl Harbour syndrome I think they call it. 😉
When it was first advertised, I wondered how they were going to stretch it to four, hour-long episodes based on the title. I think we can all see how this has been achieved.
Last nights episode was again great in terms of telling the story of a very important moment in history but very poor at telling us what it is like for a low houred civililian pilot to fly a Spitfire. 🙁
The navigation exercise looked like anything but (I’m sure it wasn’t) and the formation flying sequence didn’t really tell us much either. I don’t know about you, but I got fed up with seeing the same shot again and again during this part. Surely with the amount of cameras they had and the amount of footage they must have shot they could have made the aerial sequences far more interesting.
I think it would have been far better to have had the first two or three programmes telling the story of the BoB with all the interviews etc as a build up to the four pilots training and progress which would be covered in far more detail in the remaining episodes. That way it might have been far less disjointed and confusing than it is now.
Or maybe they should have forgot the “Spitfire Ace” title and called it “The Battle Of Britain – The Truth”.
Just my 2 penny’s worth!

Thanks for confirming it Mark.
I thought maybe it was minds playing tricks! 😉
I wonder what it was called.
Steve Connor mentioned a while back that he was going to re-release “A Spitfires Story” on DVD with extra footage. Wouldn’t it be great if he could track this documentary down, get permission and release it on the same DVD! 😀

Could it be G-BWUE now with the Real Aeroplane company?
However wasn’t G-BOML under rebuild during this period too?

Thanks to all those who’ve posted pics of 434 in her many paint jobs.
Here’s one from the Bradford archive taken at this Years Legends:

Well, after looking at all the great photo’s of the schemes she has worn, I think it would be nice if 434 was repainted in one of her Dutch ones in the future now the BF’s have sadly finished.
Personally I’d like to see her appear as H-68.
One more scheme to add to the list! 🙂

Well out of the box most people would probably agree with Damien.
However as Rowan are no longer, the source code for it and Mig Alley are now in the hands the BOB community and apparently they have done wonders fixing all the bugs and improving the it and also bringing the graphics and FM’s up to date.
Whilst I don’t have either of these sims, I’ve seen what they’ve done so far and it looks impressive.

If I recall correctly, this to is how they are described in the IX & XVI Pilots Notes.

Whilst we’ve been talking about the wing types on another thread and mentioned 434 a few times, remember that she had the incorrect E type cannon fairings fitted after she was bought by Ray Hanna up until the rebuild in 93/94 when the extended as per her service with the Dutch where fitted.
