Don’t forget she also wore the Belgian 349 Sq codes ‘GE-D’ for a short period in 2002 I think.

I have always thought that the C wing and the universal wing were the same thing and that C and B wing designations referred to the same structural design (not just weapon fit) on various marks of Spitfires at the same time.
Therefore two questions:
Was “Mk IXB” ever an official designation? I do not have a copy of the Mk IX/XVI manual at hand, but some of you out there do have it. Does the title or the of AP1565 J&L or its Leading Particulars refer to “Mk IXB”?And another question: does the absence of an aperture and external protrusion for a second cannon positively mean it was never there? Could it not be that in some Sqns/MUs these were removed and faired over during repair without altering the internal structure?
Also, Bradburger – the photo you posted does not show BS456. I have seen so many photos of BS456 I can be positive this is not her.
I seem to have seen your photo somewhere and it may have been captioned like BS546 or something similar.
Many apologies for the typo! You are of course correct. It should have course be BS546, a MKV converted to an FIX in 1942 and named “O’Guarany”. 😮
Mark, I think it’s actually 2 against 2! 😉

And don’t forget in 1943 she also had the original early style ‘Flat’ top cowling as opposed to the later ‘Bulged” one as well as the early style exhausts that she aquired later in her life and has now. 😉
Interesting what Mark Hanna said after seeing the Hornchurch photo. Must admit it would be nice to see 434 with the original early air intake, early exhausts and original top cowling!
Anyway, it’s amazing being reminded of just how many schemes she has worn during her life!

Whilst I haven’t read the book (My dad has) I’ve heard most of the audio tape version and was impressed with what I heard.
Well worth having alongside the book!
I’ll have to check it out properly some time.

Great shot Mike!
I’ll put my money on it being Mr Hanna.
And nice to see a shot of 434 in her early ‘Swire’ scheme.
I must admit I was never that keen on the later one she wore.

Well Spotted Ant.
I was going to ask about this too but forgot!
I wondered if it was RR299 but as we all know she never participated in the film….

Shame you couldn’t get 633 Squadron.
I think to most of us it’s a very poor film by any standard and also in comparison to 633 Squadron. I know some people thought the acting was poor in 633 SQ but this a hell of a lot worse!
Also, you may have noticed that they used a lot of stuff from 633 SQ most notably the airfield attack sequence and the footage of the “shot up” Mossie returning and collapsing it’s gear. This time though it’s Major Brambles (or whatever his name was) on board who gets left to burn and not Bissel!
Some of the newly shot flying sequences though were nice which I believe the late Neil Williams did but other that not much more to write home about I’am afraid.

From my collection I like this one which was taken by dad at Legends.
I think it is quite poignant in that it was the last season of the Breitling Fighters and of course the Blenheim’s for the next couple of years due to that unfortunate accident a month or so later. 🙁
Also it was the first time I’d seen either ‘Live’.
Keep posting these great shots.

Great shots so far so I thought I’d better post a few:

Mark, what year was that shot of the DA Mossie taken and what was it’s serial?
Edit: O.K just checked the WRG registry. RS709. I must admit i totally forgot about this one!

Thanks to all for these wondeful photos.
It’s is sad but at the same time a nice trip down memory lane seeing those aircraft that are no longer with us.
Chris’s shots from the GWAD show bring back a lot of memories as a recall going to several at West Malling as a kid. Just a shame this historic site has all but vanished. 😡
I have some video footage shot during the 1984 GWAD by Bradford senior which I intend to transfer to digital and edit on my PC at some stage. If it turns out O.K, I’ll upload it if you like. 😉 And on the subject of videos I also have a copy of the official 1983 show. Watching both of these, it’s interesting to see how much more relaxed things were in those days!
And I’ll have another dig through those boxes of slides again.
Some nice shots from the 1989 Fighter Meet and various OW shows.

Here’s a pic of the Seafire Alan Brooks sent me which I first posted on Avi8 a few months back: 😉
