Couple More
One more, just before touchdown, and at the end of the day.
Log Book
Peter Wood, Tim Manna, Tommy Thompson, and Pete Kynsey reviewing Tommy’s log book and the first flight of SX336 on 03 May 46.
Life begins at 60!
Second to that, Happy Birthday! Does life restart at 60? Hope so.
Will it be at…
It’s a shame that Yeovilton Air Day and Flying Legends conflict this year. As FL is always on the same weekend, every year, not sure why Yeovilton would have picked that date.
799 Squadron
I am told by the historians at the FAAM that 799 Squadron operated Seafires XVII’s at Yeovilton (VL) from 5/1948 to 12/1951, serials 100-154.
Removing Paint
A good guy to talk to would be Dave Morris, chief engineer at the Fleet Air Arm Museum. Dave just did an award winning restoration of the FAA’s Corsair, and for the most part, they took off many layers of paint and grime to get to the original stuff, as you suggest you want to do. Lots of rubbing and elbow grease, but a fabulous result. I think they’ve just done a book about the restoration. All the best.
Guestimate
E.T.
Do you have any guess as to its first public appearance?
Is there more information, or any links to the supposed cache found in the Philippines?
JP1
Does the JP1, G-AOBU count? Built by Hunting Percival at Luton.
Easy Tiger, Is there a “guestimate” as to a first flight date?
T’was Twin Squirrel, launced from North Weald around noon, towing very large black rectangular (almost square) black banner with white letteing, up and down the M11/M25 intersections, saying something to the effect that (internet?) piracy was a crime, report it, don’t support it, and gave an e-mail address to do so. Landed back at around 1300/1330.
Does anyone know the status of the Burmese aircraft, how many, etc., that is to say, the one’s still in Burma and not liberated several years ago?
A slightly different offering, RNHF/FNHT Christmas Card Original (I think) up for auction. A good cause.
Kennet had two flying Piston Provosts, G-MOOS and G-KAPW. PW was sold to Shuttleworth a few years ago and flew at the last Shuttleworth show. MOOS still flies with Kennet. Kennet also sold a flying Gnat (had two), BVPP, still flies G-TIMM. The Meteor and Chipmunk went to Aus/NZ, the Scout somewhere else.
Tim Manna did restore a Venom, G-VENM, which is flying. John Beattie has been flying it on the airshow circuit for the last few years. He never did a Vampire.
As for selling the Meteor and/or Scout to “fund” the Seafire, I don’t think so.
