DRDO EMB-145 AEWCS will start its trials soon.
Prying plane in Air Show
By Anantha Krishnan M | ENS – BANGALORE 31st January 2013 10:18 AMAfter missing two opportunities to fly public in the last four months, India’s yet to be named prying plane — Airborne Early Warning & Control System (AEW&CS) — is likely to make its maiden appearance at the Aero India-2013.
………………………………………..
CABS director Dr S Christopher confirmed that the AEW&CS will soon be ready for its flight trials. The first aircraft arrived in Bangalore from Brazil in August, followed by the second one in December.
“The indigenous mission systems developed by various DRDO labs have been installed in the aircraft. The systems have been powered on in ground and their basic functioning ascertained. One set of these systems are undergoing tests in the integration rig simultaneously. Once the ground check mission parameters are established, the next step will be to take up the flight trials of the AEW&CS,” Christopher said.
He said that the eye-in-the-sky platform would soon commence its intense phase of flight testing and system proving validating compliance to meet the operational requirements.

Gentlemen, three pages of trawling through the thread and came across hardly any aviation related post. Please keep political discussion out of this thread and post only details relevant to the airstrikes.

Rolls Royce is pitching its engine for HAL Light Utility Helicopter.
Rolls-Royce pitches engine for HAL’s Light Copter
By SP’s Special Correspondent
February 01, 2013: While Aero India 2011 was tinged with turmoil for Rolls-Royce—it had decided shortly after the show to withdraw from a competition to re-engine the IAF’s Jaguar strike aircraft—it is back at Aero India 2013 with a strong focus on the CTS800 turboshaft engine that Rolls-Royce builds in partnership with Honeywell. The CTS800 squares off against the Turbomeca Ardiden 1H1/Shakti engine that currently powers the ALH Dhruv and Light Combat Helicopter prototypes. In a statement, Rolls-Royce said the engine has passed 100,000 in-service flight hours and demonstrated proven technology and reliable performance in a variety of demanding operational environments.

The real question is just how much of the development time and money invested over the decades thus far will be evident in this foreign-assisted ‘Son of Kaveri’ 15 years from now.
Where did you get the 15 years figure from, that was supposed to be a secret 😉
PS: The 15 year time was quoted for going alone, without a partner.
If Kaveri’s dead….
Nope, far from it.

Regardless of where AMCA is at relative to KF-X right now, I’d put money on the Koreans reaching IOC first.
KF-X block-1 or block-2? The AMCA program goals are more in vicinity of KF-X block-2.
Me too i wonder about the engine, perhaps it will be the 9 ton M-88 derivative?
Not anymore. Last heard the talks with Snecma were headed nowhere and there would be a tender out for international partner soon.
.
MiG-29 also has less useful hardpoints with a belly pylon that is virtually permanently strapped to a fuel tank, and likely two more pylons on the wing making 3.
You kidding brah ?

The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), spearheading the AMCA mission, are ready with a scaled-down model (1:8) to be put up during Aero India, giving the world a first-time peek into the shape of things lined for the future.

If that’s the case, why is there any need for separate wind tunnel testing from the Indian side?
No idea, but Aircraft R&D center, HAL made a 1:15 wind tunnel model in September.
Low Speed Wind Tunnel Model of PMF Aircraft Scale model (1:15.5) of the single seat version of the PMF aircraft has been successfully manufactured at ARDC in a record time span of about six weeks.
Earlier, the detailed design of the model was completed by the designers from CAD and Wind Tunnel groups of ARDC within four weeks which is also a record. The flow-through model comprises more than 80 components including the dedicated pieces for simulating the deflections of the 12 flight control surfaces of the aircraft.
However India has a history of beating China..
We do ?

MiG-29 Taking off from the Vikramaditya:)
…whereas the KFX is actually moving forward, about to enter a full-blown development phase.
Oh really… have they chosen the layout yet ?
Anything about FGFA surfaced yet ?
If we are lucky, hopefully a detailed 1:8 model at Aero India like AMCA, otherwise a teeny weeny wind tunnel model.
