The last lot oof pic’s ,apart from 3 genuine instruments, all the other doals are photos set in coffee jar lids with plastic glazing. The screen frame is 1/2 inch wide mild steel drilled and bent with 4mm ply screwed to it. The lower part of the frame is from an electric heater ( It’s great when things break down ) Do you fancy another batch of pics Keith ?? or is that enough ??

Thats what Whirlies are made of. Hello everyone. Seriously the air tank is made up of 2 small bowls with a bit of bucket in between, the ammo drums ,as Keith said from small buckets with glazing strip for the ribby bits.
The cannon barrels are from a rotary clothes line plus a bit of 20mm bore scrap tube for the sticky out bit. the coolers on the muzzles are waste pipe ,as are the springy bits. The armour plate should read armour plyte as it was a brand new lump out of a skip down the road. The ribs for the nose section came from a 3ft round table top. Hello Keith, thanks for your help I will meditate on that, but while I’m on have you any Sutton Harness pic’s ?? I have all the materials for making the harness for the Whirly but how the straps come together is evading me at the moment. Will get back to you on the photo problem

My first real air book was AASF by Charles Gardner. France 1939/40. Kain ,Orton , “Boy” Mold, Paul Richey et’al. I was about 13 at the time . Lost it in the 80’s ( moving house ) then managed to get a tatty copy about 3mths ago. My Maths teacher did 53 op’s with 50 sqdn so that kept the interest going .

I keep forgetting to mention that the Fenland museum is now open on Wed’s afternoons 1.30 till’ 4.30. This is an experiment to gauge vistior numbers. In regard to the Whirlwind. I have made the seat and harness fixings, and the only major parts to make are the canopy sliders ,plus the canopy ( should be fun ) Also the fillet from wing stub to fuselage.

Hello Keith, as I’m not a “Pooter” person you may have to wait acouple of days before I do a thread without crashing the Forum, That bit of undercart on the last photo was off an american bomber ,but cannot remember which type. A “B” something. I know it burnt for 3 days or so as it was made of Mag Alloy.
