Where’s the fun in that?
Would have been a national mag or a book probably. No idea on regions. Perhaps somebody told me even. Bah. This is really bugging me now!
“Pompey on the pebble beach and treated to the full Red Arrows display – I think we were the only ones there – the occasion? some sort of cycle event with a few hundred participants”
“The Tour de France… I was quaffing champagne in the VIP tent (nice to have mates in the council!). Could barely focus on the Arrows I was so far gone… don’t think I saw a bike all day”
And I was on the boat that took them off to France. Can’t recall if I took any pictures. Certainly didn’t see the Red Arrers, and was as far gone as you were Damien. So much so I even helped a Drunken American Female (yes, Female, but note Drunken) (photographer?) Journalist back to her cabin. Good-looking she was, too (note Drunken for me too). Left her standing in the doorway looking sultry (note Sultry) with a cheery goodbye, and wandered back to the bar where my colleagues were awaiting. Not only did they point out the error of my ways (note Drunken) and what they would have done in my position(note they were more drunken, and couldn’t have managed what they described between them, let alone singly) but they totally failed to notice that she had returned, and ONCE AGAIN (note drunken) asked me to take her back to her cabin. Once again (note drunken) I did and left again. Hoho. For those of you who know what I look like, even the first time is a major surprise. Mind you, I had hair then.
Still regret that. I would liked to have twiddled with her apertures.
I digress. Janie and Big Beautiful Doll the first time they paired up at Legends. Same day (the Sunday, by the ground warfare hall) with Spits, including Jacquards 5 blader coming in VERY close and VERY low. (note sober).
Can’t find it Dave, sorry. Anyone know any good hypnotists?
I never met Darkie (he’s gone now) but his legacy is something.
I don’t mind at all. Just seen it – been away from the PC tonight. Am going to look in the loft now (not for the wings, they ain’t there, for clippings instead).
That link mentions Darkie Hanson of 609. He joined prewar, joined again postwar, and served the Association until his death. he was a Motor engineer by trade, IIRC he used to deal with racing cars.
Maggie Philbin as I live and breathe!
Maggie Philbin as I live and breathe!
I couldn’t care. Stalking is flattery. At least I get a picture of me for once!
Recognition.
Typhoons carried one other bit of recognisable marking throughout their career. It was used in addition to whatever AM wanted to apply on the day.
‘Wet Paint’.
yeah, they became very good. It wasn’t that they were actually bad as such – they just didn’t get the testing needed before being used (due to what was basically an emergency, ie war!.)
As for wings, I seem to recall hearing some coming up in France and then heading down to a scrappie in Spain? May be wrong.
Already have Steve – it’s your round!
Nothing is certain as regards times yet, but am looking at around 10am. Various reasons – checking out from our hotel and eating breakfast (there will be some less energetic people present), possible arrival from Belgium of someone I very much want to be there, and a desire for same to miss the heavy traffic to the show. Should be done in 30 minutes or so, then a nice cuppa before heading over to Duxford for around 11 am.
Not confirmed or decided as yet – there are many factors to sort out first. But, it will be there, and on that day. Will post properly when everything is decided.
No, just realised that my wife pointed that one out – and she refuses to come to Duxford. I do know the car you mean though.
A certain Sunday in July…..
Speaking of the Red Lion at Whittlesford, they get even more ‘thumbs up’. They’re letting me put a memorial there to a Belgian pilot from 609.
Robbo – is that the guy with cuddly toys all over the seats, sitting everywhere (just visible through the windscreen’s clear space?
