Hi Braf – sorry to take so long in answering. If you send me your e-mail address, I may have something of interest to you. That information and more.

LOL! On the roof at work, Lowestoft Air Festival, me, boss and one other. “Where are the Red Arrows? ” “They should be on by now” i’m looking either side of some piece of the building, when the first one shoots out from behind it, 20 metres away (it seemed). Great place to watch some bits of the show from. PA474 turning ABOVE MY HEAD – putting my back out while I swivel with the camera! Oh yes, very good. Just can’t see the Harriers ditch very well because of the pier!

My mate was playing paintball near Cambridge last year. On Legends weekend. “Spitfires flying top cover sir?”

Hohoho. At LAST its out in the open.

I’m mentioned in the foreword. I have been involved in this project since Christmas Eve 2001 – scanning and restoring all of the pictures in the book.

We will be there for the whole weekend, and I will have a blazer on, of all things. Expect around a dozen ex-pilots, plus a couple of ‘side events’.

We had a Cessna thing fly over yesterday.

When I was a kid we used to get loads of A10’s and F4’s, then F111’s around our village’s sky. Great it was. Even saw an SR71 one time. B52’s and F15’s, F16’s and Tornadoes came later. I remember once when I was 7 or 8, at playtime at school, an A10 came low overhead – VERY low. I can still visualise it. Superb. We all enjoyed that one. Funny thing was it was years before I saw photo’s of green ones – always grey.

At 18 I used to watch jets dogfighting over the Waveney valley. Had the Catalina come over my head twice, but the weirdest ever was this:

Its summer holidays. Me and my best mate are out in the woods burning stuff and making dens, when I hear this weird droning humming buzzing noise. I look around – nothing. Climb up a bank, nothing. Look everywhere, nothing. Looking up at last, there’s a bloody airship just coming overhead, again pretty low. Thought it was aliens in a spaceship!

    Which I saw in Denmark.

Yes. I use it quite a bit. I regret selling my weasel clamps (see below) on photo.net now though – they were ace.

add 3 soggy cornflakes in lieu of the earwig, and (drum roll) a bent and damaged Fez, from Fes (Fes-el-Bali). Actually, i’m keeping the Fez. How about a red-eye pen (see below) and 7 plastic money bags from the bank?

Its a contact print meausring around 5×4, its black and white on Velox paper, age has wearied it and the years condemned – as it was insufficiently fixed. It’s been taken on a large format camera, tripod mounted, and the photographer drowned moments later. Its then been scanned in RGB.

In addition….wait for it….you can teach MONKEYS to fly better than that!

I set landscape oriented pictures at 800 wide, portrait at 600 high (when i’m concentrating) at 72 dpi. This I didn’t fiddle with, it was just to check I could post a pic ok. I then save as a jpeg in Photoshop, adjusting the compression amount to knock it to under 100K. Simple to do, honest!

It matters to us all Scott. And as your friends, even if it didn’t, we should support you. Best of luck.

“I am appalled that Transco is planning a
gas pumping station on the edge of the
Museum of Flight Airfield and wish to
register my objection to the development
which would threaten the future of one of
    Lothians most popular tourist attractions.”

    Doesn’t even rhyme.

Anyway, perhaps we’ll get more a/c and stalls at Duxford now…..!
