Yes, it is an obsession. And the media are foaming at the jaws with it all too. It is also a crazy paranoia. The whole se of the country shut down to general aviation unless pilots behave like those on the airways. And the worst thing is that WE are all paying for it too. WTF ?
Interesting photos.
I think the 1960s SAA livery looked really nice on the Boeings, but I had never seen it gracing a Viscount before.
Some great pics. Love the Thai retro!
Me too!
I reminds me of photos I have seen of THAI International DC8s which were leased from SAS. This is also showing that hybrid SAS-Thai livery with the SAS 747 cheatline markings from 1970s. The Thai livery was really just a basic SAS livery with the titles changed. 🙂

Misrair, Thank you so much!
I knew I’d seen this photo and my boyfriend didn’t believe a C-47 could hit a house and remain on the roof. He was suggesting I’d dreamed it! So now I can show him the evidence.
I expect it was the full flap and gear, and that the aeroplane was near the stall, that caused it to stop on the house. I think it is amazing.
Much appreciated 😉

It seems we humans stick to what we know works. It took a new war for us to go over to monoplanes. The unstallable canard design is far superior (from a safety pov) than the standard arrangement yet light aircraft continue to be designed as per the known arrangement.
I took this photo in 1980 the of sister ship g-azhj and it seems to have a similar feature on the window.

Thanks everyone, for the info on the airshow. Wish I still had an active pilot’s licence. Flying in (and out afterward) was soooo much easier. LOL
The last time I went to Duxford was in 1985 and I always used to fly in. I am going again this month for the Flying Legends on the 30th, this time by car.
Can anyone tell me how it works? Can we park on the airfield like people used to do back in the early days or do we have to use the park and ride on the M11?
And does it cost anything to park a car at Duxford or is the cost purely on a person by person basis?
Sorry for such a basic set of questions but the IWM website doesn’t explain this.

Ref that apron shot of these Court 1-11s, I think it’s also on the cover of a book that I have, called something like World Airline Colour Schemes. It’s one of a very good 3 part series of books, published in the late 70s early 80s. I remember that it was published by Airline Publications and Sales, Noble Corner, Great West Road Hounslow. I believe that the company eventually became Collectors Aircraft Models at the Skyline Hotel Heathrow, now gone out of business.
Yes! That is the source of the photo and again, yes… early photo not endgame fleet. Sorry for the wrong caption. 😉
I also loved to see the Court jets climbing out of Luton departing for hot and sunny destinations with lovely beaches and golden sands. I used to wish I could be on board one of them, rather than at school doing pointless and boring stuff.
I used to think it was such a nice thing to see airliners painted in pretty pastel colours with silver and white to set them off. Luton outbound aircraft used to fly over my home and there were often colourful aeroplanes in the sky, like the Court Line One Elevens and the yellow Monarch Britannia turboprops. The colours (for me) said, holidays and good adventures. Even before Court’s pastel fleet of jets the sky held the blue planes of Autair (One Elevens and Ambassadors).
Back in circa 1971 there were lots of colourful planes flying around. We also saw colourful aeroplanes from Heathrow, like the northeast Airlines Tridents in overall yellow and grey. Also there were overall red One Elevens of Cambrian Airways.
Strange that all of the wonderfully painted, colourful aircraft were British built types.
Here is an evocative picture of part of the fleet in 1973 after the airline went under.

Some photos of the JU52s ( CASA352s ) and B25s at Blackbushe the same day as the ex Spanish C-47s, good day out !
Thanks for posting these pictures. I never saw the US bombers but I did see the Spanish Junkers 52s; I think I was having a flying lesson with Three Counties at the time.
Hi VeeOne ..Would the shade of pink be made by colour cast lighting?.Or had they gone to great expense to colour match the interior vinyl.Anyway great to see interior shots of day to day life of crew and passengers.:)cheers
Hi Eh Team
I am pretty sure the Court Line BAC jets were coloured inside as they were outside. Don’t know about the TriStars though. It was a holiday IT airline so I guess this was thought to be acceptable.
Court Line colours outside and inside
Court Line Pink One Eleven jet is pretty on the outside…
But as much as I love this colour i am not sure it should be the same inside…
Nice couple of Daks Banupa, here are 5 ex Spanish Air Force Daks in Blackbushe in the late 1970s.
Do I take it these C-47s were on delivery to the Spanish Air Force at this time?
I recall the 1970s were interesting at Blackbushe. I recall seeing other Spanish Air Force types like the Casa Heinkel 1-11s and some Junkers 52s.
That is indisputable
But the point is that an unfortunate pilot will earn an indeterminate and instant suspension of his licence for flying a twin engined Beech Baron over a field of sugar beet three or four miles south of Duxford.
Moggy
Yes it doesn’t seem what should be happening in a ‘fair’ and open society in the 21st century.
I feel the problem is that early laws were made with the protection of the people and got the understanding and cooperation from the said peeps. But then ‘The State’ started passing laws that did not make common sense to the people and seemed to be there to protect The State from the will of the People, should such a disagreement occur.
A law or regulation that isn’t for the benefit of the people (like stiffing some pilot for flying a twin somewhere uncool but with two fans not unsafe) is inherently wrong.
But the real problem is that we believe we live in an open and free society and that a ‘free democracy’ is to the benefit of the masses. When I suspect the real truth is that none of us has any real freedom from interference of The State. I feel our free elections are there to give us the false impression we are in control of the ruling elite when all we actually do is vote in one dictator or the other.
Our rights are being eroded all the time and as for ‘pilot’ rights, we have none, and we never did have any.
If there were a near extinction even or a nuke war we’d soon enough find out what human rights we (don’t) have. We would be ruled by the gun by The State and the establishment would be in control.
