Ok thanks R4118, hadn’t heard that. Makes sense now.

Very interesting link Mark12, thanks I’d totally missed that thread first time around.

Thanks Mark12, that was roughly the same in the Wrecks and Relics number3 . Interesting that Spitfires were still being scrapped as late as 1970, I never realised that.

It is a serial number, which ties into a PRXI, but they had it as a missing Mk IX. All a bit strange but wondered whether there is a small grain of truth in it.

Didn’t Peter Wood have this one? Has he moved it on now then then?

Love Spitfires especially early marks, but would be nice to have a ME109b, only trouble is none exist to my knowledge.

Yes I had read somewhere that about that time French aircraft had their throttle setups working in the opposite way around I.e forward for closed and backward for open. You’ve just confirmed that I hadn’t imagined it Dave

Yes , putting the price into context you could get a useful country cottage for less than that, but still cheap. Would it have been MK297?, how can you tell?

They are eligible for operation on a LAA permit to fly now, so that would bring operating costs down a bit, still thirsty on fuel and oil though. If you are handy you could do your own maintenance, recovering etc under a LAA inspector’s supervision. Insurance could be cheaper if you didn’t have hull insurance. Depends how you go about things but it will still be quite costly. Propstrike obviously knows you as he states in post5 that you’ve not got your licence yet so as he says get well checked out on tailwheel stuff before going for a Moth, then get someone well versed with a Tiger Moth to check you out in one. Good luck and go for it if that is what you want.

I must admit that I joined Tigar in 1984 as they played up Le Oiseau Blanc search, but after the years membership expired I had seen the light and never renewed.

That’s pretty fascinating, didn’t realise that Henschel and Man built these engines as well. Can anyone recommend some reading on these engines, that is if anything has been published? Thanks

No way of getting in touch with advertiser either, message fails when trying. Tried 3 times wondered if it’s a spoof advert to add interest?
