Yes good to be able to post again. Thanks James.
Good luck with it, I have got the very same one plus an earlier one describing all of the collection.
Well you should know papers don’t always tell the truth and it does spice the story up a little by saying it was in the Battle of Britain.
Me too, I’d like one of those.:)
Time for an update of the boo….ks.
Reckon you’re right CeBro
At last count aren’t there about 20 Spitfire projects in Australia?
Interesting, I didn’t realise there were that many. Thanks
Good to see its not just us Aussies that bemoan a Spitfire leaving the country.
I guess it’s a natural reaction no matter where you are, but in fairness you guys haven’t got a surplus in Australia.
I know it’s a replica and very nice it is too, but by the same token there is probably another Mk1 identity that another could be built around.:)
Is that a permanent move or just for a while?
Thanks Auster Fan for the reply. I did think maybe Travel Air or Bellanca but wasn’t sure.
Anything about the Welsh Spit Jg668 project?
Looked at it a couple of years ago, nothing happening and went back again last year to see it, but it had moved from Withybush airfield into the town. So don’t think it’s moving towards completion at all unless I’m behind the times, but I stand to be corrected.
A modern day sheety would have a heart attack stamping numbers and letters into new made parts..Stress raisers..Why they are all ink now.
Good point QldSpitty, hadn’t thought of that and thanks also to GrahamA for your reply. My post was tongue in cheek, as you probably guessed because things were getting rather heavy on this thread. Anyway thanks for taking the time to reply.
Do these ” facsimile” Spitfires have 300 etc, part numbers stamped on them like the originals ?, because if they haven’t that’s where the root of the problem stems from.
I think that the Spitfire remains in East Kirkby ought to be a prime candidate for a rebuild. In fairness a lot of historic cars are new builds, and it’s good to see the population of any historic aeroplane swell, so I can see the positives. I can also see it from the other side to a degree as well, but all in all rebuilding gets my vote and anything left of the original should be saved too then it’s no loss to anyone whichever side of the fence you’re on.
So Mark12, it begs the question are those Spitfire wings in the boo?:)
