There is a book titled “Spitfires and polished metal”, don’t know if it is still available. It’s a photo book done by Airlife. Quite good.
Thanks Paul, I was wondering that, because I always understood that 19 squadron were the first with Spitfires, like you said, but you learn something new every day and in fairness the guy said that he was 98, and memory can play tricks I suppose, although he ought to know because it would be an important time in his life, as they would have been state of the art in their time
I enjoyed it, and in fairness the programme is intended for the general public, not the enthusiasts on here who are bound to be able to spot errors and pick holes. The guy who was in it was clearly overwhelmed with his ride and good for him. Jerry Yagen came over ok too.
Ok thanks Robert.
Ok thanks for the update Mike. That’s a shame, as she was nice when we dismantled her at PPS.
Has anyone who ordered online received theirs through the post yet?
Chris, LA607 is in a rather poor state now sadly. And as for the Lysander, which was an airworthy aeroplane when it left the UK, it now has holes rotted through the exhaust ring, holes punched through the fabric covering, and crazed and yellowed Perspex. Poor thing! 🙁
That’s a pity about the Lysander, I’m sorry to hear that. I helped to dismantle it ready for shipping to him. Has it been reassembled then?
Thanks for gen on the camera Peter. I am very impressed with the results.
Nice pictures, looks a stunning machine. Just out of interest what sort of camera did you use to take them?
Ok thanks for the reply and update Andy, I shall look forward to seeing it hopefully then, and reading the book.
Perhaps I should have been more specific. The DH9 that I refer to, being G-CDLI if that helps. Anyone know? Thanks in anticipation.
Ok thanks for the gen Daniel.
Thanks Daniel, would that be a relation of Col Pay,who had the Mk8 Spitfire a while back?
Ok thanks guys, Paul178 your link worked for me so I must have got something wrong previously, Doo!!
I saw on the Midlands news (ITV) this morning that it was supposed to go to Cosford this weekend. Can anyone confirm if this is correct?
