Go-go gadget elevator!
Was this an airshow appearance or did Maurice just fancy a spot of early Christmas shopping? Very nice pix.
The organisers have asked me to let everyone know that the heavy military vehicles have indeed been cancelled due to concerns that the weight on the very soft and wet grass could cause problems – sorry for the confusion Vultee35. So far every thing else is going ahead as planned. If I hear more I will let you know.
The FLY-IN was still on as of this morning, the runway is not brilliant at the moment but it is useable. Obviously the airfield has taken a thorough drenching and, if the rain returns with the same fury as last weeks deluge we’ll need to re-look at the situation. Anyone participating, as fly-in guests or exhibitors, is advised to contact the airfield next week and keep checking the RAC website (The Bugle page).
The Real Aeroplane Company are currently building two Sopwith Pups which will incorporate numerous original bits including engines – few years from flying yet though. There’s also an SE5a being built on site to airworthy status by a private individual which is also rumoured to include some original parts.
My faves have to be the US air-racers, the late Jim Wright’s much missed Howard Hughes H-1 Racer, Tom Wathen’s LT Meteor and Comet, Kermit Week’s Gee Bee’s etc.
Same day, on the way there, different perspective.
Excellent pix – thanks for the ‘insight’. Nice to see tha Lanc’ at Sherburn on the 9th too…
P-51D “Sunny VIII” (sightseeing across North Yorkshire) – once preserved, now sadly no more 🙁
P-51D “Susy” (Breighton to Czech Republic and back) still preserved
Nanchang CJ6 (Breighton to Elvington and back) – not particularly historic but, preserved I guess
An opportunity arose to photograph/video the Mew Gull from a B-25 at Reno but the B-25 went tech. By the time it was fixed ‘XF was just about ready to be dismantled for shipment back to Blighty.
A piffling £2 entrance fee if you were a pedestrian!!
I also heard that the aircraft had been vandalised and daubed with graffite… 🙁
I’m guessing its static…?
“therefore we felt that this programme would interest viewers in Yorkshire more than viewers elsewhere.”
…reminds us all of those who gave up their lifes to protect all of the UK not just Yorkshire during ww2.
Yea, but Yorkshire’s the best bit!!
😀
BBC north’s area of coverage includes Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Norfolk… that’s almost half the blinking country… regional telly, tch!
Last nights preview looked great – nice air-to-air…

Davski, the “Butts” are now Team Guinot.
Aye! By different colours I meant different colours to each other – one looked yellow, the other darker (poss. blue or black). Looked as though they’d flown out of Sherburn.
Team Guinot? They’ll always be the Crunchies to me!
Hi. I live in West Cork & all i see is helicopters that are looking for bon-fires.
Please explain…!?
Saw 2x Stearman biplanes in formation just west of Selby on saturday – couldn’t id because they were too far away… thought at first it might have been the former Utt Butts but the more I studied them (narrowly avoiding two horse riders and a signpost) I think they may actually have been been sporting different colours.
