Very nice video – now has anyone got footage of the Vulcan landing at Catterick? Bet that was a sight ‘n’ half!!
Hi Ben,
Saw the Tucano leave RAF Church Fenton and heard it return a while later with a screaming run-and-break which I’d love to have seen!! Performed a flypast over York I’m told but I don’t know the occasion nor whether the BBMF flew on to there (I’m guessing not).
Quinny, the flypast at Snaith was the usual ‘figure of eight’ – happily they flew over our heads twice, nice ‘wing-waggle’ for the veterans as they departed. A few moans from folk who expected to see the Lanc’ but I was more than happy with my first ‘warbird-sighting’ (in the air at least) of the year. Good ol’ BBMF!

Sorry Quinny, not the usual high standard witnessed on these pages!
Quite grey and hazy, flypast was right on schedule (thanks to Fluffy for the timing). Didn’t get onto the airfield, chose instead to park in the minor road that runs alongside with the dozens of other aviation enthusiasts, bumped into Bennyboy too!
Cheers,
Davski
I believe that there’s a memorial garden at what remains of RAF Snaith/Pollington and that former 51 Sqd members have a reunion/gathering there. I would imagine the Lanc’ will be saluting that. Sunday BBMF flypasts are usually flown during the afternoon – I’m told it has something to do with not wanting to upset sunday morning worshippers. You could try phoning RAF Coningsby for timings (I’ve done that before) but I know from personal experience (Breighton 2004 – I think you were there Benyboy) that flypast timings can sometimes be changed at the last minute.

Amy Johnson Way, Bleriot Way, Audax Road, Seafire Close, Auster Road and Stirling Road – all on the industrial/trading estate that was once Clifton Moor Airfield near York. These names, with the possible exception of Amy Johnson, seem a tad gratuitous to me… perhaps the planner bought a copy of Flypast, a blind fold and a pin…?!
Didn’t click – 50th Anniversary – founding aircraft… a tad subtle for my mashed brain!! Looking forward to seeing them this coming season (Dak’ at Breighton in July all being well).
Agreed – lovely brochure. Why the imposter on the front cover (nice pic btw)?
I read somewhere Reno Air Racer Jimmy Leeward’s son, Dirk, soloed in the P-51 at 16 years old – he then flew a T-6 and a Stearman within the hour!
I remember one display pilot (who for the purpose of this shall remain nameless) relating an encounter somewhere enroute to Leuchars (I think), whippin’ the ass off a BAe Hawk in a P-51!!:D
I’d forgotten what a lovely aircraft it was – interesting news item for a change (but what is this Battle of Britain display team…?!).
Personally not so sure about the other must-see footage recommended by YouTube but far be it from me to get embroiled in another censorship/nanny state debate.
Very sad news. Alex is an inspiration and a legend.
I think Airline was a YTV production…
Part filmed at RAF Church Fenton when, I believe, the usual trade was Jet Provost shaped.
Spot on Andy. Known as RFC Bramham Moor / RAF Tadcaster. There is a super booklet in the Airfield Focus series that provides an in depth history of the site.
Apparently quite a large airfield in its day – not very flat though! I see the hangar nearly every day but have never seen pictures of the inside – many thanks Consul!
It’s a funny old world, 145 views of this thread so far without a single comment. I think this news is outstanding, perhaps if the aircraft had been Spitfires there might have been more reaction?
Everyone at Breighton is pretty excited too, Steve.
Luton Minor?
……I’ll get my coat :diablo:
Not sure who actually owns the Luton Minor – the engine (Bristol Cherub?) is currently being rebuilt off site by one of our Flying Club members.
