Of course, what we all (well, some of us anyway, well OK just me then) want to know is where are the gratuitous shots of Lady GaGa at Glasto 2009…?

The discussion about what to do with the F3s is becoming fairly academic anyway as the majority of them have either been scrapped or are in the process of being scrapped.

I’d try asking over on the modern military forum as I know SOC has a lot of modern missiles sites plotted – he may know of the more historic locations

For those that can’t be bothered to read the wikipedia entry

a green paper is a tentative government report of a proposal without any commitment to action; the first step in changing the law. Green papers may result in the production of a white paper.

Just interested but how much is RAF Waddington charging for parking XH558 on their airfield for some indeterminate period of time?

If you want to see military aircraft flying, might I suggest you visit Afghanistan or Iraq.

This is where they, and they are the doing the job THEY ARE SUPPOSED to be doing.

That is supporting ground troops who are fighting a war whether we like that or not.

That explains everything, silly me. In which case, why was it advertised as ‘The RAF’s Premier Aviation Spectacular’ and ‘the biggest and the best of the RAF’s annual airshows’.

Ok, I suppose there are only three RAF public airshows these days Cosford, Waddington and Leuchars but even so I have to say that managing expectations seems to have gone a bit awry here, don’t you think?

Chox, as I previously mentioned, most of the reviews on UKAR are positive. When you say the vast majority thought it was rubbish, are you referring to the enthusiasts or the public as a whole?

I have to say that I was very disappointed and apart from the new Hawk in the static and the Buster UAV in the tent, there was little in the military contribution to excite me. I didn’t see all of the flying display on Saturday (thanks to accompanying child who was extremely bored – which probably says a lot in itself) but what I did see seemed to be punctuated by substantial gaps from time to time.

What was the best thing I saw flying? The fly through of the four Belgian Alpha Jets…

Just as well ZK009 was there for the number collectors I’d say and perhaps a significant omen for the future as to how things will be futher down the line…

I have to say that it is blindingly obvious (to me at least) that the days of the military airshow (let alone big military show) in this country are numbered and that apart from RIAT that we will be lucky to see more than a handful of operational fast jets.

Having said that, Fairford is a USAF base and it is a bit of an eye opener to see how few US military aircraft will be attending this year’s RIAT. Gone are the days of seemingly endless lines of KC-135/C-130 etc.

Whatever happened to the incomplete fuselage that lay outside the back of the Scottish Aviation hangars for many a long year back in the 1970s?

I think it was c/n 585 from memory.

Getting back into the area of commercial aviation I did a quick google search on Ryanair accounts

    http://www.reuters.com/finance/stocks/incomeStatement?stmtType=INC&perType=ANN&symbol=RYAAY.O

It’s interesting looking at their income statement both on an annual basis and an interim quarterly basis (click the appropriate tabs). What is clear that were it not for a very good quarter in 2008 their financial position would be a lot worse…

I’ll be making a rare appearance on Saturday (all other factors permitting)

Hmm, there’s nothing for me to justify the ticket price.

As an aside, do you have a lecturer at Bristol called James Scanlan? He’d be about 45 years old.

    He’s at Southampton
