funny story from Indian newspaper…
Barak deal under scanner
Pankaj Vohra
New Delhi, October 22
Another ARMS deal involving the purchase of Barak missiles from Israel has come under the scanner of intelligence agencies after preliminary investigations pointed to kickbacks routed to India through a New York based bank.
The deal was apparently pushed through even though a technical team that visited Israel was not fully satisfied with the trials. The purchases pertain to the period of the Kargil war.
Sources said that the Barak missiles, which are mounted on ships to counter missile attacks, are triggered automatically once a missile is fired towards the ship.
Before India, only two countries — Chile and Singapore had acquired the missiles. In fact, while placing the order, the then government did not carry out any proper evaluation even though defence authorities were aware that Pakistan possessed far more sophisticated missiles like the Exocet and Matra(?).
According to sources, a technical team was given a demonstration of the Barak missiles a few years before their actual procurement. The team was not happy with the trials and experts in New Delhi shared their view.
The logic that a smaller nation (that has been boycotted decades and is facing well armed) and 5 times more expanding nation will make the equatation not ballanced? Please…
MAIN FEATURES and ADVANTAGES
Trans-horizon firing capacity
Very high lethality
Stealth
delayed emission of the homing head, ultra-skimming flight at very low altitude (2-3 m)
Target selection
discrimination capacity of the homing head
Penetration of defences
firing in divergent or convergent bursts designed to arrive from all directions at the same time in order to saturate defences; terminal manoeuvres to escape short range missiles and fast firing guns; sophisticated electronic counter countermeasures,
Flexible tactical use
lower workload of operators particularly due to automatic computing of the skimming flight altitude depending on the condition of the sea when approaching the target, management of the firing procedure, optimisation of trajectories – initial flight level possible for obstacle clearance, etc.).

SM39 Exocet
N/A Range : 31NM Maximum speed : Mach 0.9

The SM39 is a submarine launched version of the highly successful anti-ship MM38 Exocet developed by Aerospatiale. The missile itself is enclosed in a tube with a booster rocket, enabling it to be fired from a standard 21″ torpedo tube.
When the tube breaks surface, the motor of the missile ignites and seperates the missile from the launch tube. The missile features external inflight guidance with onboard terminal guidance. It carries a 165kg HE fragmentation warhead and is propelled by a solid fuel motor
Frankly I do like the pictures on BRF. So looking forward to get them here. Anyway. The development is continously. We had some new planes in the air a few months ago. I was looking forward to see what the latest status was. How many hours. What are the avionics test at the moment? Are there going to be weapons test? When is the fueltank going to be attached…. etc etc
Mods, Golden Arrow is totally not intrested in the subject. If I say the same about LCA then the topic is editted but somehow Chinese or Pakistani topics are allowed to be discriminated. Let is be fair. Compared with LCA the FC1 is much more in the news. Within a few years there will be production planes. And looking at the past they increased development very fast. From paper plane to flying example was extremely fast. What the exact reasons are is not clear but speading up further is probably the motto. Some Indian posters just cannot handle the fact that their LCA isn’t fast. So they start to… Isn’t is strange that Indian post negative topics about pakistan and they are ruling this forum for past few days? Well. Google? Don’t you even try to be fair here?
I posted it but if people are only intrested in personal bashing then what is the value of a forum? Laughing at others? Wow.
Probably we should believe Indian posters when talking about Chinese technology. 😎 Then we can say more about their products at the same time? No no… 😉
Just for you huge intellect, the F16 deal was not with TOT. The spare parts came from friendly nations… That is all… And isn’t the Ff17 the result of the knowhow? No… It is totally different…
So:
Pak is a bit angered that India is armed while they are not tkaen serious expect stupid titles. No wonder they move to J10…
And that mutli-year deals… Carrots… Very small bad tasting carrots.

Islamabad—Pakistan has expressed its deep concerns over the growing conventional imbalance in South Asia mainly due to unabated acquisition of arms, equipments and weapons by India while simplest of such technologies are denied to Pakistan.
Well placed sources claim that Pakistani leaders raised the issue with visiting US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian Affairs, Christina Rocca, during her calls Tuesday. Rocca now in Pakistan called on President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz separately besides holding wide ranging talks with Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri and Foreign Secretary Riaz Khokhar.
Pakistan has been jittery over the latest agreement between India and USA under which Patriot Missile system will be supplied to New Dheli. Washington and New Delhi have entered into a strategic partnership while Pakistan finds itself high and dry even after fighting the war against terror for the US.
American sensitivity not to antagonise New Delhi can be gauged from the fact that US embassy lost no time to clarify that no F-16s were being supplied to Pakistan when a news emanated from Washington that the supply of fighters was being under consideration.
On Tuesday Ms Rocca, according to sources, was politely conveyed that Pakistan does not view these developments favourably. According to official word Pakistani leaders and Ms Rocca discussed bilateral relations and regional and international situation. The situation in Afghanistan in the context of Afghan elections and the dialogue process between Pakistan and India also came under discussion.
Talking to Ms Rocca the Prime Minister said Pakistan’s war against scourge of terrorism will continue as it is not only essential for maintenance of security and stability in the region but also in our national interest. He said sporadic incidents of terrorism will not deter Pakistan’s resolve to continue fight against terror.
Rocca said United States is interested in a long-term relationship with Pakistan with active cooperation in all fields. The American Assistant Secretary of State also called on Foreign Minister, Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri and Foreign Secretary Riaz Khokhar.
She appreciated Pakistan’s role in the global war against terrorism. She also lauded the role of Pakistan in facilitating conduct of Afghan elections.
Besides, bilateral relations and regional and international situation, the issue of UN reform also came under discussion. Pakistan felt that there is a need for wide-ranging reforms in the United Nations’ system including the role of the General Assembly and ECOSOC as well as effective functioning and membership of the Security Council. The Foreign Minister said, the Security Council could become more effective if it is made more democratic, transparent and representative.
Inp adds: President General Pervez Musharraf also apprised the visiting US Assistant Secretary of State about the composite dialogue between Pakistan and India and the progress so far made between the two rivals.
Rocca hailed the peace process and underlined the success of composite dialogue to establish long lasting peace in the South Asian region.
According to APP the Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for US support to Pakistan’s socio-economic development plans as well as the country’s security needs.
During her meeting with Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri, Rocca assured Pakistan of US commitment to a long-term strategic relationship and said the multi-year economic and defence package was one manifestation of this cooperation.
The Foreign Minister and Assistant Secretary of State discussed the situation in Afghanistan following the elections there and expressed the hope that the results of the Afghan elections will promote greater stability in Afghanistan
The rumours of RAW ? Well. Even if China witholds latest… It is still improving and that is the hurting part. Sofar they build complete lines for fighterjets in the past. I do expect that you fully and logically understand that JF17 production facility is TOT? And even if the J10 TOT is not reality… It is still going to be fully maintained inside Pakistan by Pakistani engineers. Well. We know who talked about paper planes and now it is about J10 being paper Tiger… Same people think that LCA is superior. Where is the objectivity and sources?
Yep. No we can add LCA cause the MKI is also included. So… What now… LCA will get into battle and shoot BVR to get all the planes down and use Brahmos to destroy Islamabad? This war isn’t comparable with one overpowered and one weak nation. Pakistan and India did some battles. There is no weaker party here. And about tactical nukes… I will aks them will put advertisement in the Hindustani Times… 😉 🙂 You actually expect them waving white flags?
Ok. You wanna hear that Chinese products are less? And Paf expectations are lowered? Sure. No wonder it takes hundreds postings and still the same attitude.
Why then skipping subs or tactical nukes? One sided.
Maybe a dumb question but how far are the weapons tests (SD10 and a2g) in the J10 program?
Furthermore the fact that PAF is sending testpilots to get more feeling is clear sign that deal is at hand. Remember that they send two pilots to test J7mg… I think PAF says clearly that they cannot wait forever. Either options are very expensive (we all know that countries with trestrictions pay much higher) or they will not guarantee TOT (probably Thales and maybe Grifo).
With linking J10 avionics and weapons to fc1 they can not only make the deal affordable but they have to items that can share technology on the longer run. Now they can decreaser testing time. If the avionics work in the J10 then there is less testing needed in the Fc1… Same goes for SD-10 and linkage with radar… It is done once not twice… And no one has to give others (Thales/Grifo/US) the codes… I think it is a win win for Pakistan and China. Whether it is less…? Don’t think so. If it is good enough for J10 then a smaller plane with almost the same is pretty cool looking at the price. With even two or 4 simultaneous engagements the Fc1 is doing far more then we could expect. And tracking? Well. There aer a klot of rumours that PAF is increasing battlemanagement. There are clear reports about Khalid or UAV using a new mobile system. We have read about Pakistani radars are communicating to provide linked picture. We know that Erieye is in the picture… We know that they are very busy with medium tech UAV’s… So?
They are not going to feel another boycot if US (Bush or Kerry) changes mood… They can link their internal industry much faster due to the fact that China is willing to help. They will probably share next gen plane with China… So… 😉
