Tejas won’t replace 125 mig21? Is that the reason why they started a tender for that?
>>>Each indigenous LCA will cost $17-20 million against the $35 million price tag of Su-30 fighters.
>>>The multi-mode radar being developed by the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment and Hal has been plagued by technical snags and cost overruns.
>>>Last month, DRDO chief V.K. Atre said on the day of his retirement that the authorities may have overestimated their capability to deliver the LCA.
>>>Even if these tests start in 2007 (on Indian aircraft), the earliest certification will be in 2010. We want to be doubly cautious about the engine because the LCA is a single-engine aircraft,” a source said
Sounds not very positive for being on time and within budget.
Without being negative… An engine takes time. Can anyone tell me how long it took Russia, US, France, UK or China to build a working engine? And I don’t think India will go on for Kaveru if the engine will actually cost that much. Not for a few hundred engines.
I think the Twente boys (tiger?) will be happy to do some a2a. About those bvr options. I heard about it. Only missiles needed to be added. But still there is difference between those MLU and PAF F16’s. I don’t think that the PAF is looking for special BVR training. I think they are more intrested in WVR. Unfortunately the Israeli just left. Would have been nice….
Thanks. got some info finally.

I read somewhere the French were teaching Indian pilots how to use BVR potential. As a sale option. So kind of marketing. But let us move beyond that. India has more then one platform and now pretty much experience. That is more important then whether in a test the beat during a mockup combat another party.
Indian forces are using the Brahmos fully potential. Air, land and sea based. But how much can the target do to avoid destruction?
Looking at the destructionpower the CEP is pretty accurate. More intresting is how te accuracy is achieved. Laser gyro?
Arthur, We have heard about outdated Russian designs… Outdated Chinese designs… Isn’t it funny that those planes are cheaper to maintain and operate? Anyway, the F18 wasn’t a jewel when it comes to stealth. What is next? F22 and JSF with wingfences?
It reminds me about the discussions about wingfences on the JF17…
We all thought that after introduction of missiles a dogfight would be rare. In the past the missiles weren’t that good so Top Gun and other signs showed the return of WVR combat. In recent conflicts is seemed that BVR was the only combat in the air. In a netcentric approach with huge overpower it can… But I doubt that in every war this could be the reality. Bow with the introduction of highly agile WVR missiles and HMS the pr shows that it is the best option. With multiple planes and highly complex dogfights it isn’t that logic. Either the plane with HMS will be blocked by BVR or attacked by multiple formations. I don’t think that in real combat it is the best option. It is handy but that is all. Making Indian Airforce superior with a few technologies isn’t the reality. Looking at the number of posters and posts from India we tend to overreact. Just like the supersizing of Brahmos.
winfences? So it is a hype these days… It is a cheap trick and worked pretty good in thge past. But realizing that modern planes see these corrections after introduction shows that testing was a bit speedy?
>>>anyway, One thing that i wanted to discuss is why is Iran showing interest in fc-1 despite claims that double fin f-5s were supposed to be in the similar league???
Would love to. But the reality is that JF17 will be sold to Iran…
you mean that is a load of BS, actually being repeated for the one thousand and one time in order to insure the myth of ” the sun rises in the east and the IsAF controls the skies ” doesn’t die.
in what way if I may ask sir  ?
Load of BS i spropaganda and marketing. If you hear it that much you probably make them saints… It is like telling the world that Palestinians are terrorist over and over again while in reality we know pretty much the logic…
Compare it what an old Israeli pilots once said. It was something about Arab pilots running into combat without decent preparation. Anyway. The quality difference between arab pilot and Pakistani pilot is huge. Even in Irac the US hoped not to see Pakistani trained Iraci’s. Read that somewhere in AFM. The arabs command structure is not selecting the best pilots to fly but the best relationship…
beat American pilots 220 out of 240 engagements? That sounds turkey shoot… And do believe that there is difference between arab airforces and others.
Marketing is probably the very important reason behind these figures. I doubt US is that bad. Ok, there is some difference between national guard and marines but they can do it pretty good. It is netcentric minded and looking at the size… Good enough. Israeli pilots are good. No doubts on that. But the figures are not the reality.
