It is like telling to the US that the UAE F16’s are more advanced then the average US F16…

Let me explain it with an example. The Al Khaled is throwing away some armour just to get more speed… The opposite with Arjun which is gettnig more armour. So PA is clearly moving from fixed defence to mobile attack. As a smaller force one cannot wait and end dead.

Those flaps on the frontside of the main wing are longer. And you can remove two of the dynamic airtubes on the nose. Furthermore you can add those airbrakes… And I miss the AOA indicator near the nose just like the ILS antenna’s under the nose.

    Anyway… It looks nice!

We all know that India has huge force. Pakistan would probably not be able to counter 1v1. So just like Israel it is forced to find strategies that are leveling the situation. The Pakistani army has been purely quantity force in the past. Lately they are modernizing it and thinking about the same approach as the US. Netcentric. You see that old tanks are replaced. Some are upgraded and some are new build. The important part of the Al Khaled is that it will receive a interlink. They are upgrading the choppers and getting new ones. You see the same with the airforce. They are intrested in Saab Erieye… And we know the Swedish linking qualities. Then you will have noticed that the Fc1 will have interlinks. We do not know details but it is mentioned. And we have heard about all the ground radars being linked together. They have even setup protocols in Pakistan by Pakistani firms to make it effective. We have seen that Pakistani forms are devloping UAV’s. Soem have been exported to US. Even the navy is busy with improving its fleet. Agosta… Better ships from China and so on… So. Like Israel they need to find cost effective improvements.

Somehow I tend to believe the lack of reality by some posters. Surely the PAF uses those F16 for bombing role. It is a well known fact that they converted to drop nuclear devices. It is known that other planes are fitted to the task at the same time. And there are some missiles that can do it faster and more reliable. This is probably the same with India.

More F16’s were on order and were not delivered. Parts were blocked but they roled in less fast (close friends). So after a few decades some planes are not good enough to use… So what? Compared to the accident rate of the F7 or the Mig21 it is not that bad… Do look at how many F16 crashed in Belgium or the Netherlands…

The PAF F16’s are on the list for upgrade. Whether it will happen remains a question. I doubt PAF is that much intrested in that plane. If some of you read the AFM then you would know that PAF is no longer intrested in parts that can be blocked… The PAF is stressing inhouse production and they would rather go for J10 then another non bvr and boycottable F16… It is a matter of time before the J10 (I think they will order a lot of j10B) and fc1 will enter PAF… Fc1 will be produced in Pakistan… That is more improvement compared to many other nations…

The F16 has hydrazine as emergency power but it is extremely well protected and there is a lot of care been taken if it is used.

Isn’t that a typical rule for Pakistan? Pilots delivered by Airforce. Planes/choppers owned and commanded by army…

But getting all those second hand isn’t superb either. UH1, P3, C130, b407… All second hand. Those new B412 are on lease bases…

I doubt that Sweden is now just easy going to deliver Gripens to India after the Pakistani full break stop. It would be rather strange if one of the parties would get advantage. Nuclear or conventional.

    Usman Shabbir (pakdef)
There were five people involved in the discussion, your truly, another PakDef member (take a guess?), AVM Shahid Latif, Gp Capt Khalid Mehmood (of the Afghan fame), currently involved with the avionics of the JF-17 and another friend from the PAF. After introductions I started by asking the first question posted by Rafaqat “ 1. If PAF has conducted a training requirements assessment regarding induction of JF-17’s, how will they be met ?’’ The AVM replied that yes we are working on simulators for JF-17 and they will play an essential part in the training of future JF-17 pilots. The rest of the discussion picked up from there and we discussed almost everything related to JF-17. According to AVM the radar has already been chosen for the JF-17, though he didn’t tell me what exact radar but I guessed it when he told me some specifications and he was kind enough to acknowledge that I got the right answer:) One radar is the Grifo S7 and the second radar is very similar to the one found on Mirage 2000-5, the only difference is the output power, 500 W instead of the 800 W. According to AVM after the sanctions were lifted many more companies joined the race for the supply of JF-17 avionics and weapons suite and of course this gave PAF some new choices. One example of it is that now JF-17 will feature a Helmet Display System (not Helmet Mounted System), with complete ToT of course. Regarding the engine I asked the AVM that if the engine is RD-93 then what guarantees are there that the Russians will not play hard-ball later? AVM replied that the Chinese have given Pakistan written guarantees and the Chinese themselves have written guarantees from Russia which they showed to Pakistan. About the smokey engine issue the AVM told me that one reason of it was that the Chinese were using some home-made (non NATO standard) fuel and second the PAF has told the Russians and the Chinese that PAF will not accept the engine unless the smoke issue is sorted out and they have assured the PAF that this problem will be sorted out very soon.
Currently there are four PAF test-pilots involved with the project (and tons of engineers and technicians) and I asked for some pictures of the third prototype that’s under going construction (by PAF engineers) and AVM promised that I will get them soon. Other than the pictures I will also get continuous updates about JF-17 project, i.e. how many hours logged, how many prototypes completed etc. and of course a full-fledged tour of the second JF-17 assembly line being constructed at Kamra:)
Many of you guys must be interested in knowing the cockpit layout, right? The JF-17 will feature three large colored MFD’s and two smaller ones (for RWR, AH etc.) and also a full-fledged integrated ECM suite. According to AVM the airframe weight of the JF-17 will also go down considerably after using some composites giving the JF-17 a better 1:1 TWR.

Regarding the weapons suite there are many options available to the PAF and according to the AVM some of the weapon deals will be finalized within a month (There were many A-G and A-A missile models on his side table including one of U-Darter:)).

The power outage of the RC400 is 400MW, the one of the RDY-2 is 800Mw, Usman mentioned 500MW, should we assume it’s rC-400 with an increased range?

    160/2500= 6,4% for full certification
    160/1500=10,7% for initial certification

So they expect 2340 hours to finish by 2007. Good.

Is the full certification including weapon trials?

    nice pic btw.
