Crobato, thoase are the painting details. It is better to make it work and then start making it look good. About the intake. I thought those links were temp tools. But don’t understand why the F16 can do it without them but J10 need six of them. It shouldn’t be to difficult to make a frame around it… You remmeber that JSF intake put under the f16 during testing… Looked awesome…

Those vortices aren´t healthy for the vertical fins… (f18,Gripen) So most of the time they add a small wing to correct them.

Yeah the planes themselves should be in good shape (other then being left outside) but of course not all are needed to be in service and flying them would cost money for fuel, maintenance and crews.

I read some Russian article a while back, which stated that the MiG-21s in the best shape are in Syria and Vietnam.

I was amazed. I have been there for a few hot days. Driving around to get a decent picture. The planes were in hangars (open rooms and not like those hardened shelters in Europe). Some were just parked outside at the end of the runway. I haven’t seen anything moving. There were some mil choppers active with for parachute droppings. It was an awesome sight… But the strange thing was that the migs were not painted (metal finish) but were shining like just coming out of the factory and the canopies were not coloured at all. You know when parked aircraft stay outside then the glass gets some rough clour… But I had the chance to spot a few radar site inside Danang. Nice. Not happy with non active fighters and no pics I still have positive memories. The best was taking off from an airfield ad seing a mig21 between hardenend shelters. Probably still lying there from the VN war. I was so amazed that I did not had chance to take some pics. Love the country… Love the people.

p.s. I think it is a great development to see them upgraded in India. A very good high low mix with the flankers.

Two fins are their to increase stability (horizontal). But they add drag and their is a problem with airflow impact between the two fins… You can see sometimes in Top Gun that the wings are violantly moving… And there is also the problem of getting cracks due to the location…

Very informative Crobato. I do not agree with eliminating some planes. You mentionned just a high low mix of mkk and j10. Well. It is ok if you make the j10 a cheap and low tech machine. I don’t think that the j10 will be that cheap (look at the engine class, radar, weapons). I think you still miss a cheap scooter. Like the Mig21 in the Indian Airforce. The same role is for F7p for Pakistani Airforce. Or the F5 or mirage with other airforces. And look at other forces in the region. India has many planes. Flankers, MKI, Mirage2000, Mig29, Bis, Jaguar, mig27/23 and the list can go on… It is not wrong to have diversity. Look at Pakistan. A5, Mirage 3/5, F16, F7p/pg and they are waiting for Fc1 and another higher tech fighter…

I doubt that a huge nation like China will depend on one Russian aircraft and one Chinese aircraft. Eggs and baskets… And looking at the prices… They are going to switch towards quality but if there is no quantity left? Anyway. Very informative.

I visited several bases in VN. As told above. They are many stored at parking slots. Haven’t seen many flying and when I came closer and zoomed they did look in good condition. They did look in good shape. Nothing wrong.
