What about PLAAF getting Fc1’s? We have heard one side about PLAAF getting same 150 as PAF and other side telling it will only go for J10. Next year the production line will start.
Well, if even this copy paste is deleted then I am curious on what grounds.
Indian defence ministry seeks 40% more to regain ‘edge over Pakistan’
NEW DELHI: The cheque books are out and the Indian Defence Ministry plans to spend freely in the coming fiscal as its pitches for a 40 per cent hike in its outlay.
Not only are there plans to modernise the armed forces, but the Defence Ministry argues that its traditional edge over Pakistan is being eroded and it wants to regain that.
Secretary (Defence Finance) Somi Tandon in her brief to the Finance Ministry has stated that the country needs to hike its defence budget by more than 40 per cent to Rs 1.12 trillion, compared to the current year’s Rs 77 billion. This means that the defence budget would be pegged at four per cent of the GDP.
This would be a major turnaround as defence expenditure, as a share of the GDP, has been declining steadily, from 3.5 per cent in the Seventh Plan to less than 2.5 per cent in the Ninth. The big-spending days now seem to be returning, if the ministry has its way.
According to the Finance Ministry, South Block has already spent 69 per cent of its budget by the year-end while in 2003-04 it returned Rs 90 billion as unspent outlay.
Tandon has argued that greater expenditure on defence is required ‘‘to build up a conventional edge against Pakistan that has been eroded in the past few years.’’ The confidential note further states that the thrust during the Tenth Defence Plan (2002-07) has been to make up the existing deficiencies of the Armed Forces.
The other reason the ministry has given is to strengthen its conventional military prowess. The note also states India’s new status as a ‘‘nuclear weapons state enjoins upon us that the conventional military capability be maintained at a higher level than before to ensure that the nuclear threshold is raised as much as possible.’’
According to the note sent by the Defence Ministry to the Ministry of Finance, money spent on buying defence equipment is likely to go up to around 41 pc from the present 30 to 33 pc while salaries and expenditure are likely to account for another 22 pc over the five year period 2005-10. courtesy indian express
The nation is world numero 1 producer of opium and heroin. They are still killing eachother and UN/NATO tries to make it stable. The guys ruined their own airforce and now ask for those planes that were running away. We should not give these people much attention. Without Pakistani help it was a communist country without breathing afghans. Now it is a ruined nation that needs to be rebuild economically and not military.
There is a mig21 parked in the Karachi PAF museum. Let me see.

The T37 were upgraded in the past so it was not economical to dump them. K8 was introduced to replace Ft5 and T37. Pakistan will replace those planes but very slow. The reason is US engine in the K8. But Pakistan will increase production for export. It will not setup assmebly line for just a few planes. Purely economical, Nothing has to do with K8. And do remember that India still flies Kiran which is T37 of IAF. Isn’t the Kiran still flying around?
Russia are going to give away couple of Mil-8 and Mil-24 either this year or the following. As about Pakistan it is better that they stay away from Afghananistan, it is not their backyard anymore, their support of the previous regime has done a lot of hardship to the local people.
US supported the freedomfighters (reagan era). 🙂 we cannot make simple conclusions if parameters change.
Afghanistan will always be Pakistan’s Backyard. The ISI needs to reactivate its contacts and control Afghanistan after the US leaves afghanistan. The old useless Afghan Junk should be returned , but Afghanistan has to pay storage charges for the years from 1983 to 2005. Only fair .
Who will pay for the 3 million refugees? And the bombing of Pakistani soil? The defence costed a fortune. And ISI wasn’t the one that was ruling Afghanistan. It was CIA.
It is surely not less trained. It has intresting history (three wars) and it trains a lot outside and inside India with potent aircrafts.
Do wel all need F22 or the netcentric F35? Most will never able to pay it. Small fighters do just fine. Specially if the electronics get better and better.
Hmmmm……I have a strong feeling where this thread heading towards……
It s not chatting and why don’t you do this in your own section?
I cannot say much about the other planes but some parts concering Fc1 are worth discussing. Indeed the Fc1 is a follow up for Pakistan. It was a mig21 derivative (super7…) but after boycots the plane ended as a drawing. Pakistan went for F16 and was left alone. Then it decided to move on and splitted design and avionics. Now the counterpart bought very attractive planes (yes the exotic MKI etc) so the technical level is gradually increased. You hear about Grifo radar or other weapons. It is still prototype but do remember that next year it will be in production.
The Fc1 is manufactured on a traditional way and will gradually improve during operational years. The reason for this is that the Fc1 or JF17 or Super 7 must be produced inside Pakistan. With almost no high tech aviation industry it decided to go for standard materials. Not a bad idea for Pakistan and as you said maybe not good enough for China. China wants national avionics and as good as possible plane. Hence J10 with WS10. But personally I do think they will go a cheaper plane to replace the F6, F5. Diversity and cheaper total solution. Let us talk about the other Pakistani Chinese plane. K8. Now the Chinese fly with three regiments. It has been exported in intresting quantities. I think the Fc1 is a cheaper and not bad solution to replace those older Mig21’s and mirages5/3. The J10 is a bit more towards F16c/d. More complex avionics and design. But in the end it costs more. With many african and asian nations looking for a cheap BVR plane the Fc1 has more market potential then J10. Even if the J10 is more advanced.
About comparing it with LCA. I think the LCA is there to replace Mig21. Like Fc1 will have to replace F7 (mig21 derivative). It has decent avionics and intresting wings but still it is not a high tech multi role plane. Adding russian BVR doesn’t make it 4th generation. We will see if it will get large (export) orders. I know a lot of posters give enormous technical indormation to show that it is high tech but still it is a prototype and we will see how more advanced it will get. Still comparing the avionics with Rafale or Gripen (that are in operational level) is not correct. Those have two engines, high tech avionics and canards. The LCA is one level less. Not that it is not good but it is not the same.
The Lavi was financed by US and developed by Israel. I don’t think it will be a shock that some know how went to China. But we just cannot say that the J10 is fully based on Lavi. It is like Rafale is Ef2000. Some interchange but not a copy. And surely the Nesher is more based on its original (mirage) then the J10 on Lavi. But we should add that China does test a lot of tested designs. In this circuit it is not a bad idea either. We can continue to talk about the L15 which is becoming like the Yak trainer.
>>>FC-1 Oh please just stop it , The less talked the better , I am sure J-10 has something which the export customers might be interested in , But in the absence of any Hard data on the J-10 , Talking of exports is just like Building Castles In The Air.
Mr Austin from Mumbai,
How come that AFM and some other articles show that J10 is more for Chinese consumption and Fc1 more for export? Somehow it is human to think that one product is better then the other but if we both have no idea what the variables are then how come you present it as reality. I don’t think that many nation will buy J10 (support/china security/price etc). One last personal question. How come you have western name?
Regards.
p.s. In a world with Mig21’s, F5’s, A4’s, Mirage3/5’s there is enough room for cheap BVR plane. And not every conflict is fought with Rafales, Gripens or F22’s.
I think China is doing its best to make engines inhouse. I agree that there are articles that indicate that the engine is not powerful but is atleast working and it is made in China. Matter of time before they will improve it. Not much nations showed the same learning curve.
Could you guys stick to the j-10 and not have penis envy for the lca
thanks
I have heard or seen nothing about the j-10 beypund mere speculation, a few real pics and many a ps pic, comparing sucha fighter based on looks rather than hard data is simply nationalist bias rather than academic interpretation.
regards
Bad words. But somehow there are data we do not know that makes the LCA better then a lot of planes. One thing is the wing. I read somewhere that it was special. But for the rest it is still a prototype.
