There were a few in the past. Greenair of Turkey operated Tu154’s in the early 90’s. Also an Italian airline operated a few Yak 40’s in the 70’s. Of course Heavylift operated An124’s and IL76’s but they all remained RA or UR registered.
Actually there was a big russian sales drive in the 70’s. I remember both a Yak 40 and a Mil 2 on sales tour in the uk in the late 70’s.

Correct it was DH’s personal moth. On July 25th 1928 he set a new class altitude record of 21,000. I guess he owned it until its impressment?

I remember the place well as (apart from Exeter airport) it was the only interesting place on family holidays in Devon in the 70’s! It was very out of the way on a hill with what looked like converted farm buildings providing some shelter. The Messenger,Avian,Proctor and Tiger were under shelter the rest outside..

Could need a brave pilot to fly it as the orginal only made one flight 12/6/40 and was “damaged beyond repair in a forced landing with overheated engine and inadequate elevator control after 5 minutes”! Would certinally be nice to hear a Napier Sabre unless they are going to use a nasty modern engine??

Still not seen the current one. One of the few to visit the UK was the one that visited Farnborough in 1988 with a engine for the sick An124

I saw it at LFA back in 1998. How far has the restoration gone so far? Been after a ID for this one for years.

The FW44 has been in the old balloon shed at Fairoaks for a few months now. There is also something else in there but very striped down and just a fuselarge, any ideas? Where is the Jungmiester likely to be based???

In a case where a nuetral country imprisoned someone like Maurice, would he have been treated fairly well and looked after? Or would he have actually been locked up in a jail under harsh conditions? And, since the Spanish Government was Fascist, did they treat downed Germans much better than British or Allies? And did they process the Germans quicker to get them back to their unit? or were they totally impartial?

The Spanish did imprison RAF pilots. I read a book a few years ago about a Spitfire pilot who escaped twice from occupied France. On the first time he escaped over the Pyrenees and sought medical help in a Spanish village and was imprisoned for about 6 months for entering the country illegally. He was eventually released after trading his watch to a guard to get a letter to the embassy.
On his second escape in 1944? the Spanish had obviously seen the way the war was going and were very cooperative.

Personally I would have been very annoyed not to have got a Trislander both ways. Have always wanted to fly to Alderney on the BN2 Mk III but it is so dam expensive from Southampton. Even the Flybe flights to Jersey are expensive at £100+ for a weekend return (45 min each way!).

The AEW3 sadly suffered in the radar department. The airframe was sound it was the AEW radar that was the problem. I remember them in store/scraping at Abbingdon. The E-3 was a good and quick solution. Although they should never had got rid of the Shack’s!!
