Ok I wont argue with you, I never knew he had most of those, as they were never shown off. Its not so much that he wasn’t spotter friendly it was that I can never remember any of his aircraft being displayed. Apart from that is the 1977 Blackbushe airshow(Sea Fury, Spit, Casa 352) and in 1984 when I was lucky enough to see the P51 G-PSID,MKIX Spitfire and G-MOSI depart for a D day show in France.
Does anybody know if the T28’s that passed through in the late 70’s were to do with DA? I think the ex Belgium Pembrokes were visiting for long range tank fit, as I think the many Islanders that passed through did? Were the T28’s the same?

Also the unknown(to me) Bicester station commander that sent the last complete Hampden to the fire heap in the late 50’s?

here are some more from the more sunny days when 08 was in use although it does not look like it as the mountains to the north were always in cloud.

    2 EI-DIU A320 of Niki, OE-LOE also visited
3 EC-IMA A321 Volare which appeared to be based
4 OE-LTU A320, the only austrian LTU that I saw.
    5 HB-IHR 757 Belair
6 D-AICA A320 Condor, a regular, only left needing ICI out off all the A320’s
    7 G-FCLI 757 TCX
8 F-GYAP A321 of Air Med taken from the apartment
    9 EC-HGQ 737 Air Europa
10 self portrait by the fence, with hangover!

Thanks guys, some more coming up shortly along with a trip report. The 747 was a TFN diversion, also had a couple of LTU flights from Las Palmas. There was some real grotty weather about that day but most of it was to the north.

Did go to TFN but didn’t hang about as it was pooring down. Did see the santa Barbara DC10 though 😀 , plus loads of ATR’s and some Spanish AF Casa 212’s. Will save it for my next trip there. Anywhere in either Gold drl sur or Armallia Golf(where I was) is on the 08 approach, difficult to read off them when they take off on 26.

Mmm first I have heard of it, assume its G-ADIN which had a longer fuselarge, miodified fin, and wide track undercarriage. Was disposed by Glosters as scrap 4/34 but rescused and rebuilt at sywell and WFU 1936 after an accident at Sywell. Never been listed in the likes of the Air Britian register etc, would love to se it at Old warden though.

Thanks, shame they didn’t continue with the series. Will have to watch out for the Putnam ones.

I only have the two penrose volumes covering the 30’s and find them a excellent read. Have been looking for the rest but not seen any more at resonable prices. Were these the last two volumes published? If so why? Would love to have 1945-50 volume.

Its a bit difficult to pin down farnboroughs start date, but around November/december 1904 the site first came into permanant use. The buildings were mainly transported from their previous site in Aldershot and the move was completed in 1906. But the airfield had allready beeen used in the late 1890’s for balloon launches.

The French semed to be at war with aerodynamics in the 30’s! Would have frightened the enemy anyway! I guess it would have been visiting from one of the French bases in Syria?
