I much prefer the Airshow display, which shows the position of the aircraft, height, outside temperature, length of flight time remaining etc. I’ve only seen this on Boeing 747-400 and 767 aircraft, but I know other bigger types have it, I just haven’t been on them. It really annoys me when the Airshow is replaced by some crap (usually) film or “comedy” programme. Last time I flew on Air New Zealand you had no choice but to watch the bloody awful film they were showing because all the cabin lights were turned off, no one was allowed to look through the windows and the audio channel was damned awful. Being forced to sit through a 10 1/2 hour flight with the window blind closed was sheer purgatory, believe me. I normally spend the whole flight looking through the window, and flying over places like Iceland and Greenland is normally a real treat. Thankfully the pilot allowed me up onto the flight deck and I was able to look through the window up there and see the mountains of Greenland.
I put my photo on a thread entitled “Pics of Ourselves Part 3”, and I’m not doing it again!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it’s a horrid idea. I love Thunderbirds the puppet show, it has me in hysterics and has alot of charm. Using actors in the puppet roles would ruin it all, I think.

Rabie – I was in Leeds yesterday, and one train which came in was literally just one carriage unit – you know the kind which has the drivers cab integrated into the carriage bit, it was full and god knows how folk managed on it because it was one of those which has loads of stops and fill up at each without emptying. The trains in the north of England are as bloody pathetic as those in the south.

These trains are comfortable enough though…

Frank – if you’re using LHR just to go to London, a better bet is LCY, at LHR you can be waiting ages at baggage reclaim, then you have to wait among the crowds for the underground. At LCY your luggage is usually waiting for you when you reach the reclaim hall (it certainly was when I flew BRU-LCY last year). You can be out of the airport and on a taxi into central London literally five minutes after leaving your aircraft, a feat damned near impossible at LHR. Also the approach into LCY is superb, lots of tight turns with some great views of London landmarks. Of course, only VLM offer this route, but if you’re undecided it is certainly worth considering.
I don’t think BA offer the 146 from Manchester to Brussels, British Midland use the ERJ on that route and SN Brussels use the Avro RJ.
Kev35 – I too have worked among terminally ill and injured people and assisted in the euthanasia of several animals, jobs which many people would find upsetting, you have to learn to control the emotions and not “break down” in front of patients and their owners. However, I have come across men who cry publicly at the slightest little thing, and that is not a pretty sight, believe me.

The whole RER in Paris should consist of those double deck things, some RER trains are really dirty, horrid, cramped things. I’ve always caught them at Gare du Nord but I’ve never been able to go further than one stop before they go out of service, even on longer lines.
I’ve also seen double deck things at Berchem near Antwerp, but not often.
