I’m not “near” any airport, pretty much stuck out on a limb where I live (literally).
To the south there is Humberside. To the north there is Teesside. To the west there is Leeds/Bradford.
But none are really near enough for me to visit regularly.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-02-02 AT 09:09 AM (GMT)]The SN code is still used for DAT flights into Britain, I’m glad to see the code at least is the same. At first they switched to QG code, but changed it back again.
What about this merger thing with Virgin Express? That was in the UK news up until New Year, but we never hear anything about it any more.
Will SN Brussels Airlines ever be confused in name with Brussels International Airlines, or has that airline gone the way of Sabena and CityBird?
I truly hope this new airline will succeed, and provide jobs for those who lost their jobs when Sabena went bankrupt, I felt really sorry for all the staff I saw on TV, who were in tears, they were the people I encountered in Brussels airport back in September, and they were always polite and efficient. May they all find work in the near future.
It is a shame I will not be able to try this new airline (this year at least), my VLM flights are now booked and confirmed and I cannot change them.

They won’t have my custom on the Belgian route. Although I live in the north of England, I am flying to Belgium with VLM from London City. Before Sabena went I used to fly with them from Manchester. I will stay loyal to Belgian airlines, even if I have to travel out of my way to do it.

If there is to be another “national” airline in Belgium, then we don’t want Branson running it. What kind of a name is Virgin Express anyway for a “national” airline?? Virgin trains are bad enough, Virgin shouldn’t have too much say in anything.

I saw Ryanair’s Kilkenny (well, the tail and the top) at Manchester when I was in the viewing area, I think their schemes are eye catching. One of my favourites has to be the Disney Jumbo. Southwest’s whales was taking off from San Diego once, but I only saw it through binoculars so it wasn’t a great view.
I think the only “boring” Dream Scheme is Crossair’s “Hamburger Plane” – the MD80 painted all red with the McDonalds logo.
One really amusing one (I thought) was a Belgian charter plane with chocolates painted on.

The fewer cheap airlines to use Brussels, the better. The slots should go to DAT or VLM, something to help all those who lost their jobs when Sabena went. I am flying with VLM this year, but only because DAT is so uncertain at the moment. I would never fly to Brussels, or anywhere else, with Virgin Express, Ryanair, Easy Jet or Go.

Cheap, tacky, horrid, vile, need I say more? I have no time at all for this airline so I am hardly neutral, but I would dislike those colours whichever airline had them.

My tale is not a rude one (sorry Geforce), but it is Belgian. On my first ever flight to Brussels (6th July 2000), we were on a DAT-operated flight. We had a crazy/hilarious steward who even had the stewardess in hysterics.
“On behalf of Sabena and Delta AIr Transport, I would like to welcome you aboard the best flight of your life… When we crash into the sea, please watch out for the sharks and don’t get eaten!!”

Thanks for your replies!! I have now booked my flights and I fly out with VLM to Brussels. I will be going on a Fokker 50, and I’m going to try and video the aircraft landing. From your replies, the airport sounds good.
