KAI To Deliver Two More FA-50s To Philippines This Year
MANILA, Philippines—Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) expects to deliver two FA-50s to the Philippines this year, working toward filling an order for 12 of the light attack aircraft by next year.
While the intended armament for the FA-50s is unknown, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems of Israel promoted air-to-surface and air-to-ground systems at the Asian Defense & Security exhibition here Sept. 28-30, while a KAI and the air force models showed the aircraft with another set of weapons.
KAI delivered two FA-50s last year. Two more will be handed over this year, says Yuri Lee of the company’s international marketing division. The remaining eight will be delivered next year, Lee says. The 2014 contract called for delivery of 12 by 2017 at a cost of $420 million.
..The FA-50s are currently armed with an internally mounted, three-barrel 20mm M61 Vulcan gun and AIM-9 Sidewinder air-to-air missiles. But Rafael Advanced Defense Systems of Israel notably exhibited its Spice guided munitions, Litening targeting pod and the Derby and Python air-to-air missiles at the show.
A model at its stand was fitted with mockup of four Spice 250-kg bombs, a Litening pod and Derby missiles on the wingtips. Rafael is supplying the Philippine navy with the Spike ER and Spike NLOS missiles.

Indonesia Not Replacing Lost KAI Aircraft
MANILA—Indonesia is not looking to replace four Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI) aircraft it has lost in crashes since 2010.
The aircraft were three KT-1B turboprop trainers and a TA-50 Golden Eagle light attack jet. Indonesia is not interested in replacing them, Yuri Lee of KAI’s international marketing division says.
…One aircraft was lost in 2010 during a demonstration flight in Bali. The air force blamed technical issues. Then two KT-1Bs, operated by the air force Jupiter aerobatic team, collided during practice ahead of an air show in Malaysia in March 2015.
As a result, the 102 training wing at the Adipsupjito airbase in Yogyakarta now has 14 KT-1Bs. A TA-50, one of 16 that Indonesia purchased, crashed during an aerial display at the Adipsupjito airbase in December 2015. The pilot and co-pilot failed to eject and were killed.
Strange that the PAF has not yet confirmed this news, yet Pakistani defence fora are all confirming that this has happened. the JF-17 apparently belonged to 16 Squadron. No news on the missing pilot as yet.
Finally the JF-17 crash has been confirmed, but no news on the fate of the pilot who supposedly ejected safely.
The delay may be due to the search & rescue op that was ongoing. The fate of the pilot still not clear.
But what was known was that the JF-17 had crashed at sea. Somehow for 2 days after the crash, there was no confirmation from the PAF. Any news on the fate of the pilot?
PAF JF-17 reported missing over the Arabian sea. Squadron Leader Rizwan not yet found.

JF-17 Thunder from Number 16 Squadron crashed into Arabian Sea yesterday about 120 Nautical Miles away from land.
Squadron Leader Rizwan was on routine Night Mission when aircraft went missing. Authorities believe that aircraft must have crashed and pilot have been ejected. Search and Rescue Missions are deployed by Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force.
