I think we have to be careful to categorise what your doing. Acquiring airframes is admirable – however temper this with the reality of how many volunteers you have and what’s really worth spending money on. Back in the 1980’s large numbers of Whirlwinds were acquired by collections – since then the loss ratio of them has been horrendous in terms of the ones outside.
Simply put magnesium skinned helicopters don’t like being outside – therefore it’s essential to look to the long term future of these things and in some cases make hard decisions. By all means acquire airframes but also be realistic about what is worth saving .

I fear that if the museum takes on too much and it all fails we could be loosing so much.

Indeed, 668 knows about the only currently available Bucc cockpit, asking price ?5500.00 and its not that good either.

As an aside, or even remaining on topic… there are at least 3 projects in the early stages to help save or improve former RAF airfields:
Eshott (Wings over Northumberland)
Weston Zoyland (Merkle, etc)
Driffield (Philip Rhodes)

Yes, merkle and me (plus others) are trying to get a/c back in weston zoyland circuit once again. From what ive headed we have a task ahead but it will happen im sure of it
