I suppose what it really needs is an urgent question from an MP to the Minister in the Commons. That usually gets plenty of attention. Especially if he is wearing a poppy………

I was there on Tuesday, there was a very strong wind but Ed Straw
had it under control. Best bit for a spectator is standing by the wing tip as the Merlins have their final run up. I see they are booked up a year ahead.

So did TE311 fly this week? Mark 12 said so on another thread so it must be true! Nothing mentioned on their website yet and no photos?

I visited Newark on Wednesday. I usually manage a visit every 2 years. The high standard is being maintained! The detailed captions and information booklets are of a better standard than any other museum I have seen. Keep up the good work!

I visited the BBMF on Monday. They are now on Winter maintenance and
after the incident with the CWH Lancaster, the wing tips are being removed, so the mounting structure can be examined.

I wonder what effect the Indian climate will have on a fabric aircraft?
Do they need a cool dry hangar?
At least they shouldn’t be worried about moths. 😉

I was interested in the comment that the records on the Lancastria disaster are sealed for a 100 years. We have recently found out that a relative may have been on to ship and fortunately survived. He never spoke of it and now he is dead, but his son would like to find out more.
The disaster was covered up at the time and I don’t think this was to do with expense!

Were these the things that virtually paralysed Hull for a week.
I read a book about bomb disposal and they were turning up in the roof spaces of houses. Every hole had to be carefully checked in case.

Looks great- shame we couldn’t have an engine run out of it though…

If I remember correctly that Merlin has only 15 hours ‘on the clock’!
    But of course was inhibited.

Looks really good and look forward to seeing it soon – it was beginning to look a bit sorry for itself. Only niggle is that it is a shame no photos seem to have emerged of the restoration – I was really looking forward to identifying a few of my Defiant bits 🙁

Perhaps if you contacted them and sent some photos they could help?
There can’t be much they haven’t seen. When I have visited them they do have photos for their reference.
