    Cees
The burial of the crew of the Stirling received a full page feature on the UK ‘Daily Mail’ yesterday. They unfortunately credited the recovery to ‘Dutch Army excavation specialists’
They also report that the people of Opmeer will later ‘erect a memorial including some part of the wreckage.’
I have always admired the Dutch for the way they recover ‘lost’ airmen and ensure they get a proper burial. There have been occasions in the UK when the ‘authorities’ have tried to stop a recovery by ‘amateur enthusiasts’
    Thank You.

Got to see 2 Javelins last weekend. The other was at the Midland Air Museum at Coventry. This is the only surviving FAW5, XA699.

According to the Instructions for Visiting Pilots:

Squadron Leader Neville Duke has once again kindly agreed to make the presentations” and

Alex Henshaw … intends to be present during the weekend”. His new book “Wings across the Great Divide” will be on sale there (Free to pilots flying in!)

The Alex Henshaw book has been delayed. See:- http://www.zolid.com/cirrus/
May try to squeeze in both Abingdon and Old Warden on Saturday. Am I crazy? (don’t answer that!)

The same source (good book!) says that the last RAF Lancaster to serve overseas were MR3s of 38 Squadron in Malta. Their last Lanc (RF273) returned to the UK in February 1954 after the squadron started to receive Shackletons. It doesn’t say if this was the last one but surely an overseas squadron would have new aircraft last?
It was traditional! The Lanc I mentioned in my first reply was from the ‘School of Maritime Reconnaissance’

The same book (see above) says the Lancaster went on to provde excellent service to RCAF for a further 20 years after the war. That makes it around 1965? Perhaps PETER on this forum can give an accurate date?
The French Navy used them in North Africia and the Pacific but no dates are given.

In ‘Avro Lancaster the definitive record’ by Harry Holmes it has a photo of a ‘ceremony at St. Mawgan on 15th October 1956 when the last RAF Lancaster (RF 325)was flown away to be scrapped at Wroughton.’

ANN reports that the Canadian authorities received a bomb threat against the aircraft but it turned out to be a hoax.

    YakRider,

Quick question the B-25 in the background is that the old Hanover aircraft. Also the C-54 in the background is the one that came from Mass.

The B25 is a TB-25-NC ‘Bedsheet Bomber’ N9089Z. Wrecks & Relics doesn’t list it as a Hanover street A/C. I took these photos last year. Poor state. 🙁

Mrs Miggins tea rooms just outside RAF Hawkinge??

Seriously though, is it the old hospital in Shooters Hill Road, Woolwich? Not sure what the connection is, but it looks familiar

Just adding to that. The Queen Elizabeth Military Hospital? Now replaced with a (newer) building.
How on earth did you manage to get no traffic? Or did you photoshop it out. 🙂

Main Farnborough site is :- http://www.farnborough.com/
There doesn’t appear to be a aircraft participant list yet.
Great exhibition halls, very heavy security (like airports) to enter 2 years ago.
