In the RAF Manston History Museum there is a display of photos taken when the SAR helicopter was based there. One showed the winchman wading through the wreckage at a low tide. It was just ‘bare bones’. Years ago I was told that a Stirling and a Fortress could be seen on a direct approach to Manston’s runway which was used as a emergency landing base.

On London region TV they reported on a demo by former Diageo Garcia (sic?) people who were moved off the island so that “a B52 base culd be built by the US” this was acompanied by a shot of B17 Sally B flying by!

Well done web team to get us back together again.
I asked the Manston History Museum why their website had disappeared last Autumn. They told me they were hacking into and abusive language appeared on the pages. As they are only a small team they decided not to try and rebuild it. Great shame.

On a practical level I wonder about conservation of suspended aircraft. Wooden airframes twist and unglue in heat and cold. Up near the roof of any heated building is much warmer than floor level. How often and how can they be properly checked when they are 40-50′ up? Perhaps the ceiling is best left to fibre glass ‘full size models’

Yes A330Crazy, I went to both museums. I had already planned to go there this week. I couldn’t get any clearer photos than you managed. I think the displays make the museum though and the coach loads that come up from the seaside towns bring in the money to keep it going.
I enjoyed a chat with the volunteer at the History Museum. He was ground crew on 601 squadron at North Weald and used to scrounge rides in their Meteors. I didn’t follow up his remark that it was a much smoother ride than a Lanc….. as more visitors came in!

“Never mind your luggage, where are you going to sit?”
In the Mail on Sunday reporting the offer, it quotes a ‘BA spokesman’ as saying “Concorde is not for sale” This sounds final and that no one will be allowed to operate it. I wonder what BA’s shareholders will make of this statement. £5M is not to be sneezed at in any company. If Branson can’t make it pay then BA will have been proved correct. On the other hand….

This was the ‘plane I mentioned recently that uses beta thrust to reverse off the stand at Glasgow.

I hope the Airshow Industry and the RAF give him proper recognition for all his skill and experience which has seen
disciplined and safe displays over the 20 years.
