Hi Colin, slightly off topic, were you once in the music biz?
On Topic. I thought the mounted gun was for a local defence for the gun ie ground attack to your potition and very low flying AC where the Bofors would be completley useless.
I caught a glimps of the Spitfire around 2pm ish i think heading South, slightly west of Billericay @ 1’200ft
Hi AT
The part in picture “1” we also found on our B.26 excavation 31 years ago and have never had full firm I/D but we think it is part of one of the .50cal cheek guns but not a confirm as why would you put armour plate to protect a gun?. It has two fixing to wich make it look like a solid fix rather than a moving part.
PS anychance of a larger pic of the second one I will have a goo at that for you.
Regards
Colin
Did you notice that the Lancaster was what looks like R5869 !!!! which is the sister of R5868 in the RAF Museum.
My parents and two sisters lived in a Prefab in Woodlands Avenue in Hutton Essex. My mother told me how she never ever wanted to leave it when they were given a new 3 bedroom house in Hawthorn Avenue, Brentwood. I will ask my parents if they can locate the pictures of the Prefab which the Oak tree still survives they had in the back garden.
I would think the locals would like the Prefabs to still be there as around 5 blocks of flats were built there in the late 60s and its a war zone with all the local crime eminating from said flats. I have had my car damaged by the kids throwing stuff at you as you drive past. (just a bit of local history for you)
Jumping Jacques, past over the north end of the Fort today while we were setting up for next weekends Halloween event ! so after setting up grave yards, hangings, burning witches and a plethora of other things it really brightened our day up !
Anyone up for being a ghostly aircrew?
How about our B.26 excavation in 1975, just got to the digs page on our website.
Maybe we can have a Carvair day at the Museum ?
Thanks Denis, I had been to your site and passed the details on.
Thank you Hornchurch, I have the book somewhere but I have not long moved and its not surfaced yet !
Ahhhhhhh you’re the chap that outbid me at the last minute! Congratulations! Are you going to get it flying again????
JB did you mean me?

Congratulations to all concerned in this, the mamouth task that has been undertaken to get JJs bottom in the air for the public must be one of 2006s very special moments and with all the work that has gone into the runway to let us see a Lanc on grass
Well done to all of you .[/
