Anyone else got the feeling that they would like to move to a different country if they had the choice?

NO! I love my country. I was born here and (hopefully) I’ll die here…..but in between I want to be proud of my country.

What bothers me is the ineptitude with which £12.5 billion is added to the national debt just so we can get a few quid off a flat-screen-telly…

…meanwhile the much delayed and cut-back £16 billion FRES programme, to deliver replacement armoured vehicles to the British Army, has been quoted as being a major cause of job losses at BAE Land Systems where an upturn in fortunes “doesn’t look likely”.

Still, it’s not as if British servicemen are being killed and maimed because they’re still using poorly armoured Land Rovers!

The Governments are driving this fear as an excuse to drag more tax from your hard earned…

Maybe…..but taxation is necessary and was happening long before anybody had ever heard of global warming.

Would you be happier if the government ignored global warming and just increased income tax?

Let’s see now…Poland joins NATO…resurgent Russia…US missile defence system on Polish soil…Russia bases missiles in Baltic…

So…..time to remind everybody who the bad guys are…

Historians plan to have his skull examined to see if he was shot in the head before the Liberator crashed.

Interesting angle from the Telegraph article…..exactly when was he shot in the (back of the?) head…..before the plane took off?

Presumably then they shot his daughter in the head too (as she was probably sitting next to him and would be bound to notice) and I suppose they’d have to shoot almost everybody else too, except the pilot of course (who wouldn’t mind flying a plane-load of corpses into the sea).

Strange…..all this talk of the Soviets shooting Polish Officers in the back of the head has reminded me of the massacre at Katyn Wood.

    Do I hear sabres rattling?

Presumably the body was recovered in 1943 and given into the care of the Polish government in exile so I can’t see how a gunshot-wound could have remained undetected back then. Is the suggestion that the ‘crash’ was staged to cover-up the murder of General Sikorsky? Would those responsible really have caused the aircraft to crash where ‘evidence’ could be so readily recovered?

Not sure how exhuming his body will help that theory unless he was poisoned, stabbed or shot and his plane was sabotaged.

Possibly current relations between Poland and Russia have more to do with it? 😉

Weren’t parts of the Liberator recovered and reported in ‘After the Battle’?

I can’t say for sure but I can’t imagine the average football crowd of the era would have responded particularly well. Whatever the reason Ossie Ardiles didn’t complete the whole 1982-83 season but he returned to play for Spurs until 1988 and then went on to play for, and later manage, a succession of English clubs.

As an off topic, I would like to mention that the Captain (PM) Ardiles son actually is one of the Finger (modernized Dagger to Kfir C2 level) pilots.

He was also the cousin of footballer Osvaldo (Ossie) Ardiles who was playing for Tottenham Hotspur in 1982.

Why, when the serial number is painted on the tail section, did the nose section retain the identity of a Lancaster going through a major rebuild? And did that mean that a (Merlin) BI could enter a rebuild and emerge as a (Packard) BIII?

Hybrid BI / BIII were apparently produced with both Merlin and Packard engines; is this true?

Also if there was more than one site producing Lancaster fuselages isn’t it possible that the different sites deleted fuselage windows at slightly different times (so that a ‘later’ serial may have windows and an ‘earlier’ serial not).

I suppose my question is really; what constitutes ‘racism’ because it isn’t just about skin colour, or is it?

True but aren’t the political aims of the SNP based on race?
