I believe the final variant is the 1180, which is the C1K variant of the RAF’s original 1106 C1 series.
I never tire of hearing and seeing a VC10, and o course flying home in one. That said, I will never get used to the rear facing seats.
Fantastic old girl!
Great to see you made it to Woolfox Lodge Simon. I used to drive past the place on a daily basis until about 5 years ago, and on cold, bright mornings especially I could clearly see the watch office and always meant to go to explore.
In the end, due to the comments I have heard about the landowners not granting access, all I have ever managed to get are a few pictures from outside the fence.

The museum site including Paul’s Jet Provosts is on the old No. 4 Communal site at Westmoor Farm, Martin Moor, Metheringham, LN4 3BQ
Access and timings are here on this link – http://www.airops.freeserve.co.uk/mavc/script/info.htm
Or here – http://www.metheringhamairfield.org/
Pictures here:- http://lincolnshireairfields.fotopic.net/

Of course these things are never free, conscience wouldn’t let me walk past the ‘donations’ tin untroubled. Metheringham, however, is well worth it.
I’d always suggest, for those who know of him a visit to McGee’s grave too.
Moggy
You’re a fine gent, indeed, about the only thing free is the volunteer’s time.
As Moggy has also suggested, pay a visit to McGee’s grave at Scopwick if you are in the area.
Could I also suggest that other places in the locality worth a visit in conjunction with those above might be the Digby Ops room, Thorpe Camp (RAF Woodhall Spa), Cranwell Aviation Heritage Centre and the BBMF visitors centre
The museum display hasn’t changed a great deal, however other aspects have.
Paul Flynn now has 2 Jet Provosts on site, his project aircraft is coming along superbly. The Gymnasium has been restored with the help of a lottery grant and is probably better now than in 1943!, it also contains the Lancaster flying model as well as some wall displays. The blast shelters and various other building foundations have also been uncovered.
Peter Scoley would very much like a nissan hut to be rebuilt on its floor base next to the museum building, this would allow many more exhibits to be displayed.
Admittance is still free, come along!
Scampton it was then!
Pete,
goto http://www.tvoc.co.uk and on the left hand side look for “Vulcams” that will take u to the web cams in the hangar.
Bex
The hangar is empty! (of Vulcans that is).
I have been there recently and I can tell you this!
I watched 4 Hangar, the former home of E Flt 202 Sqn, being demolished, the last part standing was a door support if that is what they are called, apparantly it is being saved as it has bullet holes in it!
The 4 remaining hangars are all very much in use by Driver Training Wing, another as the REME workshop, another by Advanced Training Wing, and finally as a bowling alley / Gymnasium
The tower very much in use as office space.
The rest of the place looks superb and mostly original, the only other building I noted missing this time was the old Junior ranks dining room which was replaced a number of years ago.
202 Sqn’s new facility is built on what would have been the southern threshold of the main runway I believe.
Oh and there’s Leconfield… one of my heles…. and hangar 4…. I need to cry now….:(
Elvington looks good.. even pictures of Lindy herself….
Hangar 4, that’ll be the one that was demolished last month then!
A sad, sad day for XR806 caused by a defuelling accident. Her forward fuselage still exists at BZN I believe
This picture from the Cranwell heritage centre backs up what Forestfan says http://lincolnshireairfields.fotopic.net/p13257782.html
This picture of NAM’s Jetstream has a crest on, but I didn’t take a closer picture of it! http://airfieldspast.fotopic.net/p11262750.html
RAF Cranwell crest is on this page, http://www.joebridge.co.uk/gallery/rafbadges12.htm
CFS Cranwell crest here, http://www.joebridge.co.uk/gallery/rafbadges4.htm#
Hope these are of use to you, I have no pictures of the JP on gate there.
No need to ponder, she has indeed been repainted, they were trawling for volunteers at Waddington recently.
If you look at this picture http://www.air-scene-uk.com/oldstuff/2007/431blackbuck/xm607.htm you will see an earlier attempt where the original serial is still visible behind the new one, this has been sorted now.
The underside shows quite clearley how she has been resprayed as before the dark grey was starting to get a bit thin!!
Sure it’s a RHAG? I thought temporary installations are usually PHAGs!
Only joking, looks like some interesting (but sad) times ahead at Cosford as none of them will be flying out again:(
A nightmare maybe, but this has been done before I believe, wasn’t Hendon’s example split into manageable pieces for it’s trip?
