“I spoke to one of the Panton brothers a couple of years ago and he said it would’nt take much to get her airworthy” They indicated to me that about £1M should get her airborrne.
The old, file the sliders trick, but the tyres will tell the true story, especially the front tyre.
You havent see me ride
What model have you bought?
It’s amazing how many flyers are bikers as well, and do aerobatics, motorcycling in 3D.
No kids, why not adopt R, and pass on all that wisdom of yours.
But did you buy the Ducati Moggy?
The engine would probably be £12k for 2000 hours, £6/hr, 1200 hours means a fund of £7200. If the aircraft is doing 220 hours, there is 100, 150 and 200 hours checks also.
Not forgetting aircraft also go wrong, and at 220 hours per year, almost certainly other faults need repair.
My friend has an AA5 he rents to a flying school (run as a business, so has to book the a/c for himself and pay for the rental, albeit reduced!), and reckons it just about pays for the a/c. And needs a good year to actually make a profit.
If he is making £11K per year, why would he want to sell?
Excluding engine fund, what else is excluded to get the profit mentioned?
Try emailing sales@irvingq.co.uk, maybe they could help.

Auster Fan N975B is correct
Like bikes and cars, there is no one aircraft to fit the bill. Win the lottery, first on the list would be the Staggerwing, then a Yak 3 (cheaper than a Spitfire, might be affordable). Yes the SR22 is superb, that glass cockpit as well. A Tiger Moth for those summer evenings. A Seawind would be good, and also a …..
Moggy, if you wish to meet a say Bourne sometime, for a ride in your Piper you can have a go in the 52.
MDF,
Thanks for that, I was not quoting facts just my own thoughts on what may have happened.
Project Cancelled: Disaster of Britain’s Abandoned Aircraft Projects by Derek Wood
is now on my book list!
My understanding is that fatigue testing carried out to the service life expected, and then continued to destruction. So this is probably what happened rather than the airframe failing.
Me I’m not fussy, the chance of just one of the above mentioned aircraft will do me!
Was not the TRS2 fitted or going to be fitted with ground following terrain radar? well ahead of its time. I remember all these bits of electronic units being delivered for use in the RAE Bedford apprentice school.
Somethings do not change, the Government crushed this project, and the present government have no interest in Aerospace either. Is not the Hawk the only aircraft we make now?
