With this being an aviation forum and all, I’d like to add that you can break ‘Gods’ laws and pray for forgiveness. Try breaking the laws of aerodynamics and see how far praying gets you.

Oh dear, I realise now I just said ‘break’ and ‘breaking’ when everyone knows you can’t break the laws of aerodynamics. You merely pay for your errors or ignorance. I should have said ‘ignore’, or ‘ignoring’. I feel such a fool, and now I’ve completely invalidated my argument. How ignorant of me.

If evidence is what you want, the preponderance is definitely in God’s favor.
Do you really think that all the beauty around in nature came from some ooze, that came from some big bang, that came from something else? Do you see proof of Evolution taking place around you? Why do things that you consider “wrong” or “evil” bother you if this is just a random, chance, meaningless universe?

    Out for the day…

Pretty ignorant stance. The original Gospels were in Greek or Aramaic – the common languages of the day after the Roman invasion. Believe me, there’s plenty of evidence from “neutral” sources that could be brought up, but if you choose to disbelieve, you’ll always find a reason to ignore evidence.
There is VASTLY more evidence for the text of Scripture than any other ancient document, period. There is also good evidence that the original text is intact.

Well, if you want to be pedantic I said, off the top of my head and without looking up Wikipedia, ‘probably in Hebrew’. My mistake.

If you think that invalidates my argument I’d suggest what you say just added several more layers of translation and thus opportunities for mistakes and deliberate mistranslations.

You say ‘Believe me’ etc. I no more believe you than I believe the various sources that proclaim ‘Freddie Starr ate my hamster’. The plural of anecdote is not ‘evidence’

No, I don’t agree with Beejays last post. The first gospels would probably have been written in Hebrew. Who knows what omissions or changes the Hebrew writers made? Surely we all know how a story changes from one telling to the next. The tale from the first world war advises us that ‘Send Three and fourpence, We’re going to a dance!’ started out as ‘Send re-enforcements, we’re going to advance!’.

The current gospels, as per the King James authorised version, were translated into Latin, and who knows what agenda the translaters were following? The gospels, I suspect, follow the political agenda current at the time of translation. ‘Fear the Lord’ for example. ‘Fear’ has various connotations, depending on the perspective of the reader/translator. Perhaps you can read the original Hebrew, but even then, I wouldn’t take it as gospel.

Wyverns can be proved. The gospels are stories modified in translation through the ages. There was no Internet and reading and writing were skills held by those in power.

    Ryan.

Why would I EVER wish to believe in a God who allows his own clergy to abuse children and to go unpunished?

Just explain this one simple thing to me. The First World War. The Allies were supported by the Christian Church. Look at the recruitment posters, notices and songs and verse of the day. Fighting the Germans was not only a patriotic but a Christian thing to do. At the same time the Germans had Gott Mit Uns engraved on their uniform belts.

So, how could he be on both sides at once? Is God nothing more than a hypocrite? Or is he in fact nothing more than a comedian who watches millions die for a lark?

I don’t believe in God either, but that doesn’t sound like the God I don’t believe in.

There are tanks here, yes. However VR930 can’t use them due to the fuel lines being deleted during rebuild. As with the tanks for the Sea Hawk they would also impose serious wing fatigue penalties and preclude aerobatics with them fitted.

    Sea Fury 10 & 11 Pilots Notes:

71 (i) when external stores or wing drop tanks are carried aerobatics are prohibited and violent manoeuvres are to be avoided.

    Bristol Centaurus

Around 1992 I discovered a complete Centaurus in Williamsons scrapyard at Brumley Brae near Elgin. It was in poor condition, broken magnetos and bent fins on the barrels. The plugs were out of some of the cylinders too. I bought it for £400 but had no way of shifting it at the time (it weighs around 3500lbs I believe!), and shortly afterwards I lost the workshop space I’d planned to store it in. When I went to check a few years later, it was gone.

All I have left now is a note of the engine No, from the crankcase – 1012, and FB11 0397 was on a plate fixed to the crankcase. FB11 presumably referring to the mark of Sea Fury. I don’t even have the receipt!

I often wonder if it was ever put to a useful purpose…
