Doug was there supervising the carpenters from his deck chair, and a friend and I were busy looking at the 51s. Only time I’ve seen the three together.

I see the TF51 N7098V has turned up in Germany from Virginia. How long has this been in the US and who were the owners? I was under the impression it was still “missing, presumed to be at Greenham” with the P40, Spit IX and
    Se5e?

The windows on the tank bay panel on Spitfire AR213 are for “station keeping lights” which seem to have shone onto the top wing surface in some way.

Personally I think the purpose of having fabric covered controls is to keep me busy…:D

Now of course the question is what is being sewn…? 😉

Yes I can confirm the flight this afternoon. My contact at Thruxton txt’d me the details as they happened. Apparently Jonathan Whaley was the pilot for a successful ff. Congratulations to all concerned from all of us at Duxford. A fantastic achievement. Which will be next? TE184 or even SM969…;)

TA805 has the smaller rudder because that is what the owner had with the project at the time we rebuilt it though he was looking for the larger correct type for a IXe. PL344 was fitted with the small rudder from JG891 when that project was bought for completion from HFL by Tom Blair. He preferred the classic Spitfire shape for PL344 (which had a small rudder in service) which is the same reason that the Vokes filter scoop was removed and a more standard profile lower cowl fitted to JG891. A new rudder was then built for the completion of JG891. The large rudder from PL344’s original D.Melton Aviation rebuild is in store in Maryland.

Many thanks for your pictures Mark 12 they are the sort of thing we are needing, but perhaps a little closer to get an idea of the apperture of the barrel? Don’t mean to be picky though! As to Connie; well representatives from the company have visited him on several occasions and had complete freedom to roam and take pictures. Unfortunately not the kind of pictures that we need right now and they weren’t armed with my colour chip swatch cards either, so the answer as to “what colour did they paint them for the film” also remains elusive to me at present

If I worked there I’d shuffle stuff around like this just to wind people up, or hire an empty container just to see everyone get whipped up into a frenzy about what had arrived.

    Peter

No one seems to have noticed the containers up the M11 end of the airfield…

Fluffy, can we have one with that oddly proportioned A type roundel on “P”, pretty please?

Think you will be seeing that on a Mk1 from HFL in the not too distant future…;)

As its going to ARCO at least the dark earth will be correct.

    Roobs can you hear me………..?????:D

Err, loud and clear BWB, almost as loud as your machine from the far end of the airfield or as loud as the offending “tan wee jobbie” brown you refer to 😉

We seemed to get it right on the Hurricane LF363 a couple of years ago, (no complaints that I recall anyway) so it shouldn’t be a problem. 🙂

LAS do stock them but the last time we bought some they were a rip-off price. They are also much physically bigger (though they do fit the nipple correctly) than the original ones we had in the RAF and this can be a pain when trying to get in difficult access areas. The ones that Cromwell sell are for lorries and scammel tank transporters and are of the wrong size!
