I’ll be up at Area 51 on Friday to bring back those rivets we borrowed…..
Yeah right, of course you will
Speaking of tongue-in-cheek, I look forward to the next Legends when your
P40 flys in formation with those Curtiss rudder-pedals that you already operate 😀

Better not mention “TA805” then……..

…………oops

Don’t think we said it was anything other than a major reconstruction and certainly not at Pearl Harbor, and it does actually have its date plate fitted:p

Lets hope it’s not ‘locked up’ in the ARCO hanger….That would be worth a visit!!!:D

Even Bograt doesn’t have the access to Area 51 without some insider letting him in. It will most likely be “locked up”. Now do I know anyone with a Key?;)

To an average Joe like me, that seems like such a surreal thing to do – popping over to X for lunch, taking the Spitfire…! 😀

I can remember Spencer Flack doing this all the time at Southend when he had the Mustang in the hangar when he owned National Airways. “Just off to Elstree for a coffee” he would say, and off he would go. A bit of excitement for us, then it was back to the Invader for some tlc that came to nothing….

Wow! Isn’t it great the way they’ve grafted that genuine Pearl Harbor anchor nut into a new-build P40. Shame that it was only possible to save the cage as the nut was corroded beyond use. Mind you I understand that that cage has a nick in it from an incoming bullet from a Zero that was attacking at the time. This is also under rebuild from a wood splinter after it was shot down by a Colt 45 aimed by John wayne and the wreckage was washed up on the shore of some beach out there and used as a tooth-pick by Ronald Reagan at the height of the cold war. Such provenance:p

IAC161 was out at an occasion at Felixstowe yesterday and our pilot took the trouble to route back over Ray and Mark’s resting place as our own tribute to two great flyers. I’m sure they would heard the Merlin and have been saying “lower!”, and no doubt THEY would have been!:)

anybody know if the above two will be arriving in the spring now?

Should be an exciting year next year with the the arrival of the above 2 and hopefully the completion of the gladiator and cr.42.

i wonder whether there is also another hurricane planned somewhere in the pipeline?

Think you’re a bit hopeful on the CR.42 front to say the least! 😀
As for another Hurricane, how about an old one in a new set of clothes? I understand it’s all happening at “Area 51″…….oh and some other things as well;)

I’m going to Las Vegas for the weekend (yes really!) so I’ll keep my eyes peeled for weird goings-on. Might get a trip round Nellis if my mate can arrange it.

There’s always weird goings-on at Area 51 (DX branch)…….because we’re all a bit weird. 😀
There are rumoured to be some strange new shapes……and it’s not just some of the engineers 😉

I love the way that they have got it so authentic to the original, by even incorporating the incorrect fuselage roundels that MH wears! And didn’t the advert in AI indicate that Ferocious Frankie is actually the original aeroplane…How laughable, more made up aircraft histories to become “gospel” no doubt! I can hear it now….”But it IS the original FF, it says so on the box of my corgi model box”

…and we can’t re-engineer a tyre valve?

Mark
It’s not that it can’t be re-engineered I’m sure. If we can re-spar and make a lot of the airframe bits and even build new FW190’s then it rather smacks of: “Why go for the simple, cheaper and obvious option when this is an MOD contract and we can really cream off the tax-payer on this one and hey, we can even say there were ‘technical development problems’ and push the price up even further than the agreed tender” ! Isn’t this the standard practice with MOD contracts these days, oh and of course build in a few delays as well……. 😡

We had TD248 flying last Friday, IAC161 flying on Monday this week and IAC161 and JG891 both down to fly later this week as well.
They do forecast hideous rain though

Superb restoration by HFL hope she stays in the UK and look forward to seeing her in 2007. ps. Fab photos!

At present there are no plans by the new owner to take this, the Buchon or the Hurricane anywhere except Duxford. I am sure you will be seeing a lot more of these aircraft on the show scene next year, in fact they were out doing some further test flights and currency time today – 2 Buchon flights and 2 in the Spitfire. We are currently working out the new livery for the Hurricane and I’m sure it will be a welcome change to what has been on it in its previous two paint schemes. There will be some excellent shots appearing (I know as I’ve already seen some of them) once Darren has thawed himself out from standing at the fence all afternoon! Some lovely ones of the Spit and Buchon together. Not quite what you expect in November that’s for sure! 🙂

Bograt reliably informs me it was a “Stealth-Bucket from “the Hall” on an intruder training mission to test out “Area 51’s” jamming defences against prying lenses and intruders as part of the ongoing Aurora drop-in maintenance contract ARC have with the USAF/CIA 😀
