Very nice… Any chance of telling us where they were taken from… I can see that the Vulcan is at Waddington, but what about the lightnings and JP?

    Many thanks

T6 – They’re fantastic! Thanks for posting them.

Are you able to tell people how / where they can get them from? I’ve got flight sim loaded, ready and waiting!

    New Forest… You’re right… It is a crop sprayer! But it’s still a military Auster AOP9!!

To quote from the book “XK410 of 160wing on a fly-spraying mission over Christmas Island in February 1959. The spray consistedof DDT and paraffin”

I challenge someone to post a colour photo of an AOP.9 in anything other than green/brown camouflage (apart from XR241/G-AXRR and the three RAE white/blue machines). Some had dayglo orange strips on top, but that’s all!

Albert, I think I’ve half met your challenge!!! It’s defiantly an AOP9, and it’s defiantly not XR241, or one of the Bedford 9’s… What it is, is XK410… An all silver AOP9 over Christmas Island taken in 1959!

Going back to the ‘I have been told’… Well, I was told that some of the Hong Kong Mk9’s were painted all silver. I appreciate that this isn’t a colour photograph, but it clearly shows an all silver AOP9… I guess it’s at this point that you have to start putting trust into peoples own experiences and believe their accounts of what they saw rather relying solely on colour photographs. Anyway, I just thought it might be of interest! If I find any more I’ll let you all know!

T6 Flyer… I’ll make a point of meeting up with you at Eggesford this year… Perhaps you can show me how to fly the AOP9?!!!!

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to post on this thread. Auster Fan… I’ll have a word with the Auster club and see if we can come up with a fly in near Norfolk next year… Failing that, your best bet would be to get over to Leicester on 24th / 25th June for the Auster Club AGM… There should be a few Austers there…

Right then, now time to test the water! I’ve read that some AOP9’s were painted in two tone brown camouflage while out in the desert… I can’t find any photographs to back this up, but I’ve come up with the following… I’d welcome your thoughts. Should we re paint XP282 in the standard Army green and brown, or go for something a little different… Like desert camouflage? – Like I said, I’d welcome your comments, whatever they are!!!

First can I say a big thank you for all the replies so far. Please keep them coming!

T6flyer – Nice to see the pics of the Eggesford 9’s. I didn’t get down there last year, but I’m hoping to take our terrier in there for this years ‘Auster fly-in’ If you’re there you’ll have to come and introduce yourself. I’ll be bringing VX927! Were you hoping to install the pods onto one of the Eggesford aircraft? It certainly makes them stand out a bit!

Albert Ross – Thank you for those two pics! I’ve see a picture of the Bedford AOP9’s with the pods before, but I’ve never seen one installed on an Army machine… If anyone has a picture, I’d still love to see it! Regarding your question over XP282. Nope, she wasn’t scrapped! She’s not flying at the moment, but she’ll be moving north to Lincoln very soon where we’ll be restoring her to flying condition. That’s why I’m trying to gather pictures of her! Do you have any other you can share?!

The picture posed by The Blue Max – If my memory is correct, that little incident ended with a cracked undercarriage leg!

I hope that when she is ready for public displays, she doesn’t have to just sit on the ground until RIAT comes around all because they have some clause that she’ll fly there first. As long as people get the chance to see her around the country, I really don’t think it matters who gets her first!

Zwitter – If you do manage to bring her home, try importing her as scrap metal… the last time I looked into it, there was no duty on importing scrap.

This is my first post here so hello to you all!

F4MPHIXER – If I had to put my last ££ on it, I’d say the photo posted by Olliehilmes is XP280, the Army Historic Flight Beaver based at Middle Wallop. I’ve been in it a couple of times, and it’s identical to the picture. I may have a photo of the panel myself if you like? I certainly have a photo of the cockpit of the Beaver at Coventry if that’s any help to you? I don’t know how to post photos on here so I’d have to e-mail it to you… Let me know if that would be of any use.
