    Pete,
I didn’t include the Tangmere one in the list as I believed it to have been scrapped…unless it is duplicated with any other in the list it can be added to the now you have confirmed it still exists.

    You have a PM pete

I have the rough outline of the list I have…I don’t tend to collect the engine numbers/mark so have added where I happen to have been given them (many of the recovered/restored engines are not recognisable anyway). I look forward to comments, corrections and hopefully additions 🙂

Total of 35 Sabres listed here…there are about 4 that have question marks over them (duplicate or did they ever exist) and I haven’t included the Guernsey example in the total (currently in the sea)

When I saw the Shoreham Sabre with Barry James (he was partly responsible for getting the cockpit section together) it was in a bit of a state with lots of parts missing and the blocks quite corroded. They had tried to preserve it by painting liberal amounts of hammerite (or a product similar to that). There have been so many conversations over the years that off the top of my head I thought it was trawled up…however you obviously know more about these specific examples so will bow to your knowledge on the details 🙂

Last I spoke to Roger he was trying his best to get a Sabre and was looking at a recovery in shropshire. However it has been a while since that so would not be at all suprised if he had purchased this (although he didn’t buy it at the shoreham auction when we were there)

Intersting to see honiton mentioned…this is a question mark Sabre from the ATC. I have been in contact with them over the years and they had no record of them ever having a Sabre (esp as Honiton was a hut and the wooden floor would not have taken a Sabre). The Rolls Royce list has:-

1064 (Honiton) Sqn ATC unknown number/mark.

From your post HMS Vulture….are you saying the this is one of the engines that Kermitt Weeks has?

The Shoreham example (sea recovery from what I remember) was sold and last seen laying around Booker. Not sure if it is till there (this was about 6 months after the sale).

Talking of the shoreham sale….can anyone actually confirm where the mock up cockpit ended up? I believe it is in France but not sure where.

Still working on gathering my notes together on the Sabres will post as soon as I can

When I was in contact with Kermit (or at least I think it was his daughter who replied) he only had 2. One is an unknown in terms of internals…looks complete from the outside but not been pulled apart.

1 of 3 vultures the RAFM have…this one at Stafford. Would the vulture you know be anything to do with your museum? or are we talking about the ‘best’ one of the 3 on loan with Rolls Royce?

Does anyone happen to have any pics of the RAFM Tempest on or just after the bits were pulled out of the ranges? Would be interesting to see what damage was done to the airframe before they realised they were destroying what they thought was the last Tempest V

Interesting that the Sabre was swapped from somewhere in the UK…I am wondering if this is one of the ones in the RR list (ATC squadron springs to mind) that seem to have disappeared!!! As with any engine list there are alot of ‘double’ entries of Sabres e.g. Cambridge University & Duxford.

I have been tracking Sabre and Typhoon stuff for 12 years….and I am pleased to say that this is one I have not seen before (although when the location is finally revealed it may be one that I knew about but have not seen a picture to date). I am hoping it is another that I have not come across before

off the top of my head here are 3 more that have not been mentioned…Smithsonian (I believe this was the replacement for MN235’s damaged engine that was never fitted), there is another in Sweden (museum there) and RRHT have one on load (do not know the history of this one yet). Have pictures of both but not on this computer.

The one mentioned by merlinpete in private hands is interesting as I think this is one that I do not have in my list…would you be able to PM me any more details on this pete? the only other one in private hands not mentioned is stored in Manchester.

There are more than 3 in France…but have been unable to get any contacts in France for more details. Anyone have any contacts?

From the BAPC list…Cambridge Uni is the duxford example. ATC example didn’t exist according to the ATC. RAFM only have 3, 2 installed in aircraft and the third in front of MN235.

Solent Sky example is on Loan from Birmingham Science musuem…delivered new and inhibited from Napiers!!!

Cees…do you have any more info on the one in AVOG-Museum? Haven’t done a search on it yet but do you have any pics?

    Sorry for the ramble….

    Dave
