I can only totally agree with you Hornchurch.
But I do have one question, where does this leave the re-launched and re-vamped Classic Flight Club?
Steve
Hi Phillip,
Your quite right Transport types in general don’t tend to be well represented in preservation. When arguably by far the the biggest impact that aviation has had upon humanity is the way in which it has revolutionised transportation and shrunk the globe. Therefore it seems right and proper to have a museum dedicated to this aspect of aeronautics.
I would suggest that any such museum should go beyond just military transportation and include civilian types and activities as well; exhibits could include everything from the Berlin Airlift, through famine relief to sick bags and airline catering (now there’s a thought).
Steve.
Hi David,
I agree with all that you say; but I think the problem is that some of us like airlinners, because they’re happy planes which we largely associate with nice things like holidays, and as such we would rather see a VC10 in a colourful airline livery as oppossed to a drab military colour scheme.
That of course said the VC10 has served with the RAF far longer than it did with the airlines – so I guess it all boils down to personal taste in the end.
Steve
So what would be top of your wants list; mine would be all in 1/72 –
Really good Tiger Moth and Stearman
BAC 1-11
DH Dove
Late model Anson
Steve
1. Best 1/24th Hurricane.
2. Worst 1/72 Tiger Moth
3. Most built 1/72 Gladiator; I built a whole squadron (actually 7) aircraft to go with my Airfix 1/72 ‘little’ soldiers, when I was abouut 9!

[B][SIZE=4] I don’t see much wrong with it “glorifing the American war machine”
Surely glorifying any war machine is wrong, war means people die, real people that is not actors on some Hollywood celluloid.
Of course we should remember and honour those who have died to protect our freedoms; we should also endevour to study the roots and causes of armed conflicts in the hope of avoiding such loss of life in future wars.
But when we start to turn such momentous and horrific events into pure entertainment then we are already on the slippery slope to repeating history’s mistakes. The people who gave their lives deserve any film about them to be an accurate and fitting memorial to their sacrifice NOT a cynical money spinner.
Steve.
Tom couldn’t agree more, that Airfix still periodically produce their abysmal Tiger Moth beggers belief, and one is left to wonder how many people once disapointed by such offerings have avoided Airfix thereafter.
My all time favourite Airfix kit was the 1/24th Hurricane, which still graces the top of the wardrobe in my back bedroom.
Steve.
Hi, Question:
With a lot of aircraft migrating into Aerospace, presumabley quite a bit of space will be freed up in the other hangers. Does anyone know or have any ideas about which if any aircraft will be moving into this vacated space?
Personnally I would love to see the other airlinners under cover, surely there must at least be room for the Herald and/or hopefully the BAC 1-11.
Steve.
One and a half Avro Yorks?
Steve
On the basis of 25DegSouth’s post can I add Short Shetland to the Short’s flying boat family?
Steve
So what’s the Rumour?
Steve
I seem to remember being told by Mike Russell that G-MOTH had a glider towing hook fitted, as he also had a number of vintage gliders including I believe a Kranich II this would seem logical.
Steve.
How about for Shorts:
Empire ‘C’ Class, Empire ‘G’ Class, Sunderland, Seaford, Solent & Sandringham.
Althought I suspect this should really be a tree.
Steve
Just a guess here, I notice that their are also a number of Blue Lorraine crosses on white backgrounds; I’m pretty certain I have seen these used in conjunction with RAF roundals on Free French aircraft (I think the Airfix Blenhiem had such an option on the original decal sheet) – so question did any Potez 25s escape to the UK at the fall of France and serve with the Free French?
Also I think the RAF style roundals with Rred stars are Yugoslavian markings.
Don’t know what the funny ‘S’s are or the black, yellow and green roundals. could someone enlighten me?
I just like my aircraft to be photogenic!
However I can imagine the following in 2106 when a Tiger is repainted to represent the Shuttleworth’s Tiger Circa 2006; “but you’ve got it wrong! you’ve used the photo’s of the 1938(?) CFS aerobatic team! there isn’t enough red!” etc etc ad infinitum.
