Interesting theory… on what info you based your comment? I think there will never be any former F-5EM/FM going to Argentina, nor any Super Tucano to FAA or CoAN! However, perhaps you know more then I do 😉
Any chance the Super Tucano will be sold to Argentina?
Saludos
Tiger II I have no info on that beyond the very close relationship currently shared by Cristina and Dilma/Lula. Also there was a knee jerk reaction that saw a number of ex-FAB T-27 Tucanos shipped to Argentina in order to avert the impending colapse of pilot training in the Cordoba Air Force Academy… The rest I described is just a follow on from what has happened before… and the fact we will certainly need customers for the F-X2 aircraft we build in the future.

Hi guys,
The curent issue in the Argentine military now a days is of a more political nature, the Kircheners political left-wing origins managed to execute a consitent underfunding of the military forces of the country, demoralyzing oficer and ranks and accelerating the exit of a great many number of people who are leaving for better pastures in the civilian sector. The delay in replacing the obsolete aircraft and ships used in Agentina wil create a situation in which in ten year’s time they will need a burl reequipement program that will be very expensive (thus politicaly complicated) to pursue. I hope that by them Brazil will be able to sort out it’s own F-X affair in order to be able to assist the “hermanos” in their military ressurgence. If such happens we might see the current Mirage 2000C bought from France some years ago transfered to Argentina as well as some of the F-5EM/FMs modified Tiger IIs in order to emergencially replace the venerable Mirages. I forse a number of Tuanos and later Super Tucanos being sent to Argentina for use by both the FAA (Air Force) and the Aviacion Naval (Naval Aviation). KC-390s would be just a natural step in that directin…
On the other hand there is imense doubts in Brazil that the Argentine Aviation Industrial base in Córdoba will be able to take its desired place in the KC-390 production consortium due to the continuous degredation of the personal technological and financial means over the last decades…

Lula’s latest comment, effectively pushing the F-X2 announcement into the next year, is really a big blow on the French. As I said before they had their Rafales all packed up for delivery to Brazil… Any delay also works to alow Gripen NG to become less and less a “paper aeroplane”…
To one newspaper Dilma commented that she had tread Nelson Jobims argument for the Rafale purchase but that she really wanted to read the Brazilian Air Force’s own evaluation of the new fighter bid (which, by the way, had not been forwarded up by Jobim earlier).
Dilma is famous in Brasilia for reading rhrough every single page of whatever gets to her table, independent of it’s size. This is very different from Lula’s habit of just sticking to the facts that figure on the first page only. What could this minute trivia mean in terms of F-X2, only God knows, but the potential is considerable.
Dilma’s first year in office is set to be spent with very tight purse strings, she has to unduo the effects of Lula’s last two years in office. In order to battle the harsh effects of latest economic world crisis our government has been very eager to spend government cash all around. now there is a price to pay.
Spending a ton of money in fighter jets in a time of forced budget economy and major cuts does not make much political sense…
This is the current scenario.

But wait a moment! Wasn’t there a severe technical restriction for building a tanker from the “plastic structured” 787? Wasn’t that the reaL REASON FOR KEEPING THE 767 LINE OPEN WAY BEYOND IT WAS COMMERCIALY REASONABLE?

Once more… What a monumental blunder! I thought all involved in such a complex procurement process ought to be professionals… i think I’m wrong…

Sorry Wanshan, this last article that talks about China is actually from an Australian newspaper that seems to be incensed with the “clear menace” represented to Australia by the Chinese naval build-up, if you look in the same article there a a series of links to other articles, published once or twice every month dending this idea that Australia would be the “Martyr” of any US – China conflict in the Pacific… Thus my comments!, Sorry if my mind wondered too quickly aheade of my typing, 😉

Please allow me to veer off on a controled and pertinent variant here…
This topic is exploring the new ways that Stealth fighter jocks have to work to benefit from their modern aircraft, but there is also the very interesting and important opposite view, how can 4th gen fighter jets work to overcome the inherent advantages of the 5th gen aircraft? The answer in my view is obvious, by negating the enemy’s use of Airfields, aircraft carriers, tanker aircraft and AWACS platforms. Can the availability of all these means be guaranteed in the time of a future crisis?

“an increasing tempo of work” …???!?!??
At best, we’re able to observe more visible work but that doesn’t mean faster work. And of course, major surgery as on the island structure takes longer and proceeds slower than installation of more numerous smaller elements e.g. sensors, weapons etc. There is no way of telling how fast work was conducted internally.
Why would Australia be even modestly relevant in a hypotetical war between China and the US? The center of the action would most certainly be over nearby South Korean and Japanese territories, never in VERY peripheral Australia (which by the way is located between 4800 and 7400 Kilometers away from the Taiwan Strait!)…

I just heard that Brazil is seriously considering the purchase of the two KC-45 prototypes that were made redundant after the cancelation of the NG/EADS win… Can anyone confirm their current status?
Regards,
Hammer
From what I was able to figure the two aircraft are c/n 871 and 925, which remain in an undefined status. At least one of them (871) is reported to be stored in the ex-USAFE Torrejon Air Base, can any of out Spanish friends confirm this news?

My thoughts exactly!

The tactic of providing proprietary information to competitors is called “leveling” and is done all too frequently. Only the naive believe government purchasing agencies are honest.
What about that tiny little piece paper called a “NON-DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT”???
This is a classic “procurement hell” scenario, now both contenders have consistent reasons to sue the Air Force if they end up not being selected…
Let’s see if they can shake this legal mess away just like they did with US Aeropace one.

USAF Sent Bid Info to Wrong Tanker Rivals
By VAGO MURADIAN
Earlier this month, the U.S. Air Force sent letters to rival planemakers about their bids for the $35-billion-dollar tanker contest – but it mixed them up, delivering its technical assessment of Boeing’s bid to EADS, and vice versa. … full story
Brazilian Defense Minister Jobim visited the Cruzex Exercise this afternoon, called a press conference and DID NOT announce the winner of F-X2 as expected. He said that the decision is scheduled to be announced by president Lula and president-elect Dilma soon, before the end of this year. Rafale supporters believed that the presence of Adl`A Rafales in Natal would make this the perfect back drop for chosing the French fighter as the winner of the next fighter competition…. But it did not happen.
In December Saab is counting on Lula`s presence for the innauguration of their brand new world-class “research center” in the city of São Bernardo do Campo, will he attend? God knows…

An alliance so informal that it tolerates cross-border armed raids, & sponsorship of terrorists operating on a neighbours territory . . .
The ‘alliance’ is no more than a shared hostility to outside intervention. It does not preclude violence between S. American states.
Hi Swerve, the Unasul South American nations organization exists only to take the big US hand and the whole bunch of central american/caribean politico/economical dwarves out of South American issues. inside Unasul there is a South American Defense Council who dreams of ending up as a South American only military entity. Colombia was weary of the Bolivarians ganging up inside the Unasul against it, but chose to join as they say that being on “the outside” was sure to be worse for its interestrs in the region… Unasul was created AFTER and as an answer to the cross-frontier raid the Colombians did against Ecuador.
Of course there is a clear left-leaning agenda inside Unasul today, but this ought to change as the local electors replace the current governments with more liberal centrist presidents like Chile did in the beginning of the year and Brazil almost did in nov 3rd (56%-44% was the end result her)…The fact is that the dominating US economic presence in the reagion is faltering specially due to the migation of its industrial base to China that naturaly is replacing the US as most countries prime trade partner over here.n China is already a larger trade partner to Brazil than the US?
With the diminishing american economic presence the political clout in future scenarios is sure set to follow inexorably…
Do I make sense?

Who knows, maybe Cameron can tempt them with the near prospect of operating a pair of Ex-RN Type 23s… 😉
