How often will in reality the F35C be catapulted off a carrier with a light load?

I assume that once 3F software is available external stores can be carried so there will be no problems, as if there are is a full internal weapons load?

So is the only time that the F35 has a problem being catapulted from a steam catapult when the squadron is launching near their home base at the end of a cruise?

But, of course, it still has to be considered unacceptable for the aircraft to shake like that during take off, so a solution will still need to be found – there just isn’t a hurry for it perhaps?

I find F-16.net is quite good for info about American aircraft, many people who have served in the US military post on the forum who have hands-on experience with US sourced hardware. Info on hardware from other countries not so much – Russian hardware is certainly not a focus.

Almost twice the weight of the JSM, a fuel-efficient turbofan engine rather than thirsty turbojet*, high aspect ratio wings for low subsonic cruise drag rather than low-aspect ratio stubs and an airframe shape which absolutely maximizes utilization of internal bay volume. All else equal (mainly warhead weight and flight profile – the impact of the latter is nicely demonstrated by your spec sheet) it stands to reason that the Russian missile will out-range JSM, and by a handsome margin too.

Very simplistic way to estimate the range of each missile – there are other factors that tell on the range of a cruise missile other then the type of jet engine used. As it happens the quoted range (catalogue figures?) from the manufacturers both give comparably similar figures for range.
