In a recent case Getty images obtained substantial damages plus costs against a UK removal company which used a getty image without licence. The web designer was at fault however the company who had the website was the one who paid up. Around 200 similiar cases are pending.
Getty now uses Picscout to locate use of its images and it can detect reversed and cropped use.

An airline livery is not copyrighted in the sense of having pictures published.

Photos taken on private property eg buildings,airliners ,out with open days where blanket permission has been given, are subject to permission being given for their use commercially. The knowledge needed to understand the legal aspect of publication is part of the reason why a professional photographer studies and is expected to know the rules.

And I am one of pro image makers who strives to make a living, a lot of my work involves aviation. I take a dim view of those who think copyright is a casual matter and those who use my images commercially without permission can end up with a bigger cost than paying the going rate in the first place.

Copyright exists to enable protection for those seeking to earn a living from creating images. Those who are determined to make a living this way will sek to protect their work.In the modern world of the internet this means placing a large visible watermark on the displayed image.

If you do not care about your work being copied and in some cases resold by someone else, then just post your images big size ,no watermark and give them away.

Oh well it seems that the council have failed to provide a proper site in the region so it is not surprising that this has happened.

Displacement

I used to work in bird control dealing with the problem of flocks of gulls which would cause hazards on the airfield. Before moving them on it was important to work out where they would go and also when it was safe to move them.We could deny them the use of areas close to the runway, the runway itself and the close in land uder the approaches. However you needed to be very aware of displacement and in some cases the act of scaring birds at the wrong time could cause an accident.

Seems a lesson for dealing with travellers is being learned the hard way, they will always find somewhere and it is better to have them on a proper site than on a football pitch.
