I was watching both approaches and saw nothing odd or noteworthy about either.
Thanks for sharing the story of the rebuild. I would favour the civil scheme because duplicating a Mil scheme would hide the origin and not be as pleasing to the eye.
It is to the credit of the fund raisers that they have managed to make any progress with this concept. I am wary of being critical when they have done so much. It seems easier to raise funds for a brand new building and park than it is to keep fund raising for existing locations which already are memorials. From my distant viewpoint I would rather support East Kirkby and the memorial in London.
Some crews did practice drills and learn each others jobs,it was the case that it did improve the odds.Having a good ground crew helped as well.
The crimes are very sad and made all the more so by the bravery of those killed. However i cannot let facts be overlooked. if you have any interest in the debate about capital have alook at http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/study-88-criminologists-do-not-believe-death-penalty-effective-deterrent
I am not seeking a debate here but always seek to place facts .
Thats like asci fi movie…..very neat work.
Glad to say Hampden that outside display does not always spell doom,i can think of several that sat outside as gate gaurdians and are now flying and a fair number of museum ones, from Blackpool the Seafire,Mew Gull are airworthy and the Lancaster is being restored to fly.
Somebody does care and has been trying to raise help…..http://twittervforce.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=89
The visit highlighted the UK publics interest in WW2 era aircraft flying.Whilst I have been an enthusiast for many years it is seldom that the general public realises what is flying about.Hope the lesson is learned and that 2015 results in greater publicity for all the preserved flying aircraft. The key seems to be the use of the many aspects of social media.
seasons greetings to all involved in the 2014 events.
Yes, Sabrejet, the Duxford one, the trials were in 1974 or 75 ,I was at western radar Aberporth at the time and handling the flights, we also had Lightnings from Valley MPC doing boom runs
good to read of your save, well done. I have always been impressed with the pics of Javelins with 4 air to air missiles mounted, wonder if this could be done? did you know that the Javelin helped with Concorde trials? the last one flying used to run air sampling flights over Cardigan bay, Concorde would do a supersonic run North to south and the Javelin would then fly in the opposite direction into the wake and then dash back to Boscombe with the air samples.
Wiki has a good article on the Wildcat,95 percent new design and first overseas order has been made by South Korea…http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AgustaWestland_AW159_Wildcat
Sopwith, it is because very few have the means to buy an aircraft but far more can be involved in smaller items.
try these people http://gahp.org.uk/airport-history/ i used to help Ray Munday with his research into the area.
Cosford has a role to play as part of the attempt to prevent the magnetic attraction of the South Of England winning more exhibits. This has pulled in many airframes over many years. The IWM has recognised this and chosen Manchester as a Northern hub.
