RE: My Short Pilot Career Thus Far
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-01-03 AT 03:14Â AM (GMT)]Great work Phantom. WYSIWYG is right ( and I know I passed this advice on before ) be religious in your flight planning and always have a calulator and always know what the aircraft weight is. Some people that crack up their plane failed to do that. They fly all the time in a lightly loaded ( 172 is a good example ) then one time load up their buddies and all their gear and go flying and as you can guess the aircraft will handle different ( all your speeds and attitude you are used to are different) You are good at remembering things so I am sure you can memorize all the important passages from the 152 and 172. Here are some other things I learned growing up around small aircraft.
* Always make sure the gas caps are on tight/ see to it yourself. You stop at an airport on a trip, a kid comes out and fuels your crate and you get back in and a few minutes away from the airport see your fuel gauges go down fast because the gas caps were not put on tight 🙂
* Become an expert on the weather
* Really get into being an expert at doing cross wind takeoffs and landings with confidence
* Always keep your head moving. ( too many private pilots don’t do this ) I saw a cool feature on a ex Harrier pilot flying a small twin. He never stopped moving his head and was looking outside the cockpit a lot. The example to follow.
* If you get some time someday, get some hands on, spin training from a good instructor.
Anyway great stuff Phantom. I am always partial to the days when my dad had a 150hp 1973 Citabria. It was so fun to ride in.

RE: C*rlsb*rg drinkers only
Yup. Miss those nice English pubs with the nice atmosphere and fun people. It is worth it even if the drink is more expensive that way.

RE: Any computer guru’s here?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-01-03 AT 02:38Â AM (GMT)]Kick it once. Restart Computer. Repeat as necessary.
🙂
I hate database compatibility stuff. I have a situation like that at work with an older database running on a newer computer. But at least you have hope in that someone else is using the same operating system as you are so all is not lost.
Contact the software vendor (the training software) directly. I am sure they have seen this problem before and know what a quick fix is. Rather then hunt and peck for an answer by digging through config files and such.
They may ask you to do the following (which you may already know how to do…)
I have WinXP pro so this may or may not help….. In WinXP Go to “Start” / “Control Panel” / “Administrative Tools” / “Data Sources – ODBC Tools” hit that a dialog box will appear that has a bunch of “tabs” at the top to choose from. Select “Drivers” and look at this list. Make sure it matchs what is on your friends system upon which this software you want to use works. (version number and date of driver) This is a start. I will look in my XP reference book and see if I can find anything. If I can’t, Frank will answer ALL your computer questions 🙂 There are some other pretty saavy computer types who lurk on this board that are better at database stuff than I am.

RE: What to do with North Korea
Still some interesting points that Garry has. There won’t be any conventional war push south from NK because, while they might do some damage, it would be the end of that regime. Period. The leaders of NK like their job. Doing something conventional would put them out of a job. Also their military isn’t even being feed well so I don’t know how combat effective all the units would be in an offensive mode (not talking defensive).
Part of it I can understand with what NK is doing now. They are just saying; “You don’t suggest or tell us how to do our job”.
They still have some explaining to do, not only to Japan and South Korea but to China who has already said they would prefer a nuke free Korea. The real thing that sucks now is that it gets mightly cold there this time of year.
