The “B-3” is one potential contender for Prompt Global Strike, the intercontinental program. The problem is that the USAF has too many programs and not enough cash to go around. This is compounded by the fact that there are a lot of similarities in some of them. The best answer is either Rods From God, or a CONUS-based aerospace plane.
Like AIM-9s? 😀
I have no clue. However you might know if you were assigned to some plans/fragger types for an operation. 🙂
Hmmm well don’t think a laser 2000lb der GBU-24 etc will fit inside. Kinda long with the Paveway style nose/tail setup. Would have to see that to believe it. Certainly a GBU-12 would. However the upcoming Laser-JDAM might fit in with a 2000lb class setup if you want 2000lb laser ability.
If submunitons land on a runway as a form of airfield denial, you use high pressure water from firetrucks to push them off quickly.
Just as an aside as most may know, dumb submunitions like M77
http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/docs/Gs01aa_1/tsld027.htm
or whatever it is in MLRS, just like dumb submunitions in CBUs etc have a high dud rate. Where you have lots of uxbs around in the area after a fire mission. They are cute and yellow and in the case of OIF, one of many events an Iraqi girl picked one up and took it over to two U.S. soldiers. It went off, killing her and injuring the soldiers. So when they are used, assume a high dud rate.
Smart submunitions like BLU-108B SFW ( CBU-105 etc ) for the most part don’t have a dud rate and are engineered in such a fashion as to leave a “clean battlefield” as it were. However they are expensive and are good only if you are going after known hard/soft vehicles en masse.
Seems the casualtie rate of dead civilians ( not counting soldiers or hez on either side ) is about 11:1 give or take with around 600 dead Lebonese civilians approx and around 50-60 dead Israelis. ) Don’t see ruining a whole country as a sound strategy to remove a small number of bad actors launching rockets.

hi,I’m suggest to the USAF to developing the bombs bay of F-117A in order to carrying more new bombs like SDB(Small Diameter Bomb),and leaving over the developing of FB-22.
who agree my idea?
Part of the F-117 loadout has always been classified. So they never really confirm all of the things that have been test dropped out of it or the whole menu of things considered for it over it’s service life.
F-22 and F-35 make the F-117 with no job. It can only do strike where the other two can do both strategic strike ( first nights of an airwar stuff ) and air to air. So having F-117s around in the future will be a waste of less and less dollars we don’t have.
Hmmm so many ways to go. At least he got a ride and a cool photo 😀 All the fancy turning is nice. However the SH is weak if it has to chase something down. Just about everything in the current IAF lineup can refuse engagment. Where… an SH can’t refuse engagement. Go with the AESA and they would have a no peer diverse strike jet. The fighter ability of the SH just isn’t there. However if you have a large gang of SU-30s backing you up, an SH can pretty much hit any ground targets you want unmolested. That might be a stratagram.
The mission of the MOD, for years, is to be a rubber stamp for politicos that want to cut things.
As stated already. Really no money. Add up things like JSF, Iraq etc and there isn’t any money around. Doubt we will even see anything like tankers funded anytime soon either. No bucks, no buck rogers.
Australian F-35 Lightning-IIs tipped to be top spy planes
new F-35 Lightning IIs joint strike fighter (JSF) will feature advanced electronic spying capabilities once possessed only by special electronic intelligence gathering aircraft. That will allow RAAF Lightnings to monitor ground communications,
one question of mine against whom ??  new zealand ??? 😀 😀
Not really news. The simpleton press is just catching up. Industry experts have known for some time now that we are just learning all the things you can do with AESA ( and MESA in the Wedgetail ). What started out as a sensor for aircraft is now a high bandwidth transceiver, ESM/ECM support device and a electronic soft kill weapon if the software ever comes about.
MiG-35 would be pretty good worked over to Indian specs. I would get it now at what ever the price and add ( fund ) mods for it later. I think any supply chain management problems of old ( Ru vendor ) would end up being old news and worked out with no problem. I don’t see the Super Hornet AESA being matched for air to ground, it is that good. However that is all the SH is: In it’s AESA form a very good strike aircraft. Would have to see all of the loads of offsets thrown into the deal but still don’t see SH as being any kind of solution. SH would be a better replacement of the dedicated strike jets ( MiG-27… Jaguar etc ), and not this deal.
If a ban is given, there is a reason.I’ll add to this that double IDs are not allowed. All “new” nicknames you’ll create during the duration of your ban will get deactivated.
See you in 2 weeks.
Frank is a bully. I got banned for one week just for posting that Super Hornet video. 😀 :p
It’s good for a laugh anyway. “Selling” F-16s to Pakistan is just a dumb idea. One really completely dumb idea is in the package it included JDAMs. That really is a bad decision. A fair argument to my point would be that for GWOT anyway, Pakistan has killed off a lot of bad guys for us. A lot. And with good ground forward air controllers ( GFACs ) A JDAM carrying jet like the F-16 is really very very handy for ops. Big time.
All in all though I don’t know why we ( U.S. ) are there. Afghanistan is useless dirt not worth dieing for. I don’t see any value it provides to our defense, considering 911 happened partly because we have bad Visa control. And other home security screw ups.
I still think those Sukhois could be quite useful in a limited conflict. For example: Chavez buys North Korean long range range missiles which could reach the USA, they send over a carrier and some F-18s to destroy them. In such a scenario anti-ship missile equipped Su-30s could pose a real threat.
Not when you consider all of the assest that just the CVBG as one team can put out. It would make all of a very good shoot x and thats it. Not important anyway. Let him have his aircraft, it is none of our business. Of course this won’t stop our defense industry from trying to sell us a few extra billion here or there in military equipment we don’t need just because someone upgraded their air force. Not to mention all kinds of waste of military equipment foreign aid we will try and pump into the continent using this as a justification. Our defense industry loves this stuff. Our defense industry will be wearing Chavez T-shirts for the boost he will give to future “sales” ….. er I mean U.S. taxpayer handouts.
I wouldn’t say severe risk. While the Super Hornet is slower acclerating fighter than those you listed, it’s still a formidable opponent. If the pilot knows his plane he’ll know what to do. WVR it’s always nice to have manueverability even with the AIM-9X in service. Hopefully the uprated F414’s come on line soon to help the SH out.
I wouldn’t worry much about the SH. For what the Navy is using it for, it’s going to be great. It’s not a dedicated interceptor/air superiority fighter but it’ll do a good enough job protecting the fleet. The APG-79 and AIM-120D combo should project it’s power better in the coming years. As for the RCS, every little bit helps. Even with a good-sized loadout, I bet the SH gives off a pretty small return. As with the Typhoon and Rafale, RCS reduction measures are always a plus.
Yes, the Tomcat was faster and could fly longer but for sheer versatility, it’s hard to beat the Super Hornet.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ……… oh sorry…. I’m still awake. :p 😀
Thats what makes it cool. It’s modular.
