Ah here I hear the “cancel the F-22 programme” again from CNN, the prison abuse scandal may create a deeper need for more troops, aka army gets bigger and the money may come from the money saved from not buying the F-22s.

Except that the army doesn’t need to raise its current numbers, it just needs to have troops completely pulled out of Europe and Asia if congress would get their act together. Also currently USAF is downsizing more ( number of people on hand ). This frees up total DOD numbers for other services to raise theirs if needed.

If the goal was to save money. JSF would be axed. Marines would get loaded up with some F-18E/F. The few measley Harriers they have hardly make an impact. As for the carrier need. Keep buying more F-18E/F and get the A-45 UCAV program going. The other goal here would be of course, do less expeditionary warfare, pull all the permenant troop basing out of Europe, Korea, Okinawa for starters. That would save lots of money and still keep teeth. Again, As for the F/A-22. Except for carrier ability ( assuming a JSF really can fly ), the F-22 beats the JSF silly in strategic strike. It can’t carry a 2000lb class PGM, But it will be able to carry JDAM 32, 35, 38 and a good handful of SDBs, take it far and at shorter ranges, do more sorties per day. Getting some more F-22s beats sinking 240-50 billion into JSF. This will still leave money to pay for all kinds of non-sexy things like airlift, tanking upgrades,… and….. A-45 UCAV. What really isn’t needed is JSF. As for the foreign partners in JSF, it isn’t proven that all the work share wants are going to be met by the partners in spite of all the hype. We will see.

Nope. Not much to do with Camanche. As for paying for the jet. That’s easy. It is mostly wired into future USAF budgets. The focus over the next few years will be JSF ( $240-50 Billion ), overweight, and at least for USAF, in the long run,… not very useful.

I have been following this. Incredibly stupid. We have extra landing strips coming out our ears and another base closure commission forming. Base closures mean we have extra capacity visa v our force structure, yet we are building yet another facility. Makes no sense, and is a great political pork project / waste of tax payers money.

Yours being based of course on 100% knowledge of being there and the facts of the event, as opposed to limited media details of the event in question.

One thing that you as a customer have to figure out is weight vs. altitude of where you are going to use the helo. Pretty pictures of an attack helo maxed out loaded look great, but once you get in a hot and / or higher altitude, the ability to carry all that depends on the helo.

Gee, long time ago we had a new member who actually had something interresting to say. Go on, mate!

That is some pretty fantastic BS Geforce. First as was asked already. Why bring this thread up? Two: What you quoted was stupid…. The U.N. ? The same U.N. that ran the oil for food program, with large crime family like kickbacks?

Bring back Bill Clinton. Sure if you are a rank socialist who doesn’t believe in working for a living, I am sure that makes sense. Our problems are in too much foreign involvement. Something the Clinton lovers ignore as Clinton did too much foreign involvement also.

Leave it to CNN based on their thin article you could read the following metrics several ways.

Australians now spend on average 1,855 hours in the workplace every year, just topping Americans who work on average 1,835 hours a year and beating Japanese workers’ 1,821 hours.

Those numbers could also mean the Japanese are more efficient etc etc. The data was pulled from several different countries which have many different ways of doing work.

It might be a good article … then again, it might not be. No peer review on the metrics so that makes it shakey at best. The difference between 1821, 1835 and 1855 is hardly dramatic. Just enough of a difference to suggest that one country might have more non-work holidays than the rest, etc. etc. Pretty thin.

    Poorly written CNN garbage.

    Possible junk science alert here.
