Checked my archives and have photos in original AWA scheme, then in Air Bridge Carriers and leased to Air Anglia for a short period before joining Elan.
Any chance of a sneak preview in her other schemes mate 😉
Regret don’t have XN685 in 890 Sqn. markings and assume it joined 890 at Yeovilton around ’71-’72 after the Martel trials.
Well we picked her up from Hawarden about the late 80’s early 90’s time and she was apparently being used as an instuctional airframe, which is good because everything has been taken out and put back together properly, not hacked to death like most are, so I’m lucky in a way 😉
Thanks for the piccy’s though.
and a few more
few more
😮 😮 😮 Oh my god!!!!!!! I don’t believe it!! 😮
I have never seen these before! Where on earth did you get those from? I can,t say how greatful I am for these, espacially the flying shot of her over Hatfield 😀 These are the first real 100% definate shots of 685!
Brilliant. Thanks very much…………got any more 😀 😀
I miss that Hurricane……..she belong here in old England 😀 ……….hang on, forgot, we got a P47 ‘Razorback’ 😀 😀
Superb! Have photos of nearly all your aircraft when they were in service, so will be interesting to compare.
It would be nice to see some of those photo’s Albert, especially if you have any on the Sea Vixen, XN685. I only have two when she’s was in service and one of those is a, doubt it is pic 😀
We have one of the most active group of members now at the museum, than we have ever had before and now Malcolm Lambert is Chief Engineer (who lovingly restored Canberra WF922) things have been moved up a peg or two. Luckily for us, we have a handful of us regulars that attack the aircraft and plenty of other members to continue the general maintainance of the museum itself.
Going to get some bits and pieces now for the NF14 then I’m off to the museum to get on with her. I’ll come back later armed with pictures a plenty on the Argosy, plus other aircraft recently restored and up and coming projects 😉
Great job on the aircraft guys! If only other museums could follow in your footsteps…
Cheers Pete. Comments like that encourage us to keep going 😉
I have flown many a radio controlled model aircraft, three of which were Spitfires, the last having an 8ft wingspan own design of a PR-Mk19, which flew a dream. All built from Balsa wood and plywood and covered in fibreglass cloth. Minus radio gear and 45cc Zenoah engine…total cost of parts for model airframe £225!
This kind of radio modelling promo, is something I do not agree with. Kid are gonna want to fly these and without an experianced modeller probably.
What they also fail to tell you, is, to get your dream model Spitfire to fly, and more than likely subsequently crash, you need a 12volt Battery, a devider panel, glowplug power lead, fuel, a pump for the fuel and a few other bits and pieces to start it! Probably around another £80 in price ontop of the £500 you have already spent 😡
I am very concerned about this sort of thing cause it doesn’t do us proper model flyers any good, when they keep getting complaints about model Spitfires smacking into other peoples property or even worse a human! These things can kill you if they hit you!!! 😡 😡
I love model flying, but these things are total B****cks!!!
* I say ‘essentially’ because of mod state and year. No two Canberras were ever really the same in their cockpits or nav stations, especially nav stations. Similar yes, but the same? Rare.
😎
Now how did I guess you would have been in here Les 😀
A few more.
my fave of all Meteor variants, the NF-14… they just look so cool….. i wish i could give you lot a hand in doing her up…
cant wait to see her, when she is all smart again… keep up the good work. 🙂
Something you may be interested in my friend, is the restoration I’m doing on the Sea Vixen at the museum. All be it on hold for a bit while we do the NF14, but she’s coming on 😉
Great stuff!! I had heard that it was hoped to put her back into her original AWA livery, but I guess it’s easier to repaint markings that are already there?
Correct 😀 I’ll take a few shots of the old girl to give you some idea of what we’re up against. 😉
Now when is someone going to start on the Argosy? Would be lovely in BEA livery or the original Sir W.G.Armstrong-Whitworth scheme?
The Argosy is being worked on at the minute and we started re-painting her this year.
We did look at other colours, but it has been decided to keep her in the Elan makings she carries now. It’s a big airframe and it will take a while to bring her up to scratch. The props have already been referbished and the engine cowls are next on the agender. I will take some photo’s tomorrow if I remember and start a thread on the project. 😉
No no no no no no no, yes.
But the world does not rotate around OW either, blasphemy I know.
No, the world rotates around Wanaka 😀
