Wow, beautiful! Thanks for posting DCW
Classic Man,
Time tramps on, but ALL the aircraft in your image are now retired from flight…
No need to flare it so much, the runway is huge. Wonder if a lack of familiarity with the type is to blame?
Off you pop then chap.
Is this aircraft significant? Why save it? It’ll surely fulfill it’s days by training fire crews who may need the experience to chop people out of a stricken airliner. Don’t underestimate the importance of the dump….
Needs bomb racks…:diablo:
Good answer!!!
I’m afraid I dont buy into this ‘what are you bringing’ theory… The punters who go to these shows bring the most important part of the show… The money! Without money, there will be no show, and without interesting exhibits, there will be no punters. You need all parts of the puzzle to make an airshow.
Legends will still be a great show, especialy if pistons are your thing. But I have to agree with rafmatt…. This year doesn’t look extra special compared with whats been seen perviously.
Personally, I’ll be at Waddington this year…
Yep, I’ll be at Waddo too, working.
RafMatt, you are not the only serviceman to post on here. Said with no tone, but be aware of your audience, ahem.
It difficult to organise a superb show without attendees being blabbed about on the net beforehand. Before the Internet we just pitched up and hoped for the best. I don’t know what to suggest to appease the naysayers. There is a finite number of warbirds worldwide, and a finite amount of money to get the non Duxford residents to the event. I believe the Zero was cancelled a couple of years back due to insurance issues. Unless there is total secrecy on the attendees, people will always be disappointed it seems. Personally, I’ve attended since 2003 ( and the Fighter Meet before that, with a gap for commitments like you RafMatt) on both sides of the crowd line. Whatever the attendees, I’ve always found it special. The most emotional moment was had from the pilots tent on the Saturday evening with beer in hand and the crowds gone. There were 35 warbirds in my view, an orange sky and a happy atmosphere. Bliss….
I would think the H&S crowd would not allow her to be powered up anymore..? Would be nice if a group could form up to look after her though..
Peter,
HSE would give a hoot about this. Look at their website. IWM may have a few things to say about it though.
rafmatt,
Think yourself lucky that you’re going to Legends, I’ll be working elsewhere that weekend. As for content, I can’t help thinking that TFC et al have one hell of a tough act to follow. Year on year they pull something out of the bag that’s bloody special. This year its a very nicely restored P-47 Thunderbolt. Amazing! Think yourself lucky. Incidentally, what aeroplane will you be bringing to the event?!?:diablo:
Where has my hair gone??????
Relax Martyn, it’s just an egg in the nest. Bloody good job on that cowl though…
They sometimes do operate from a grass strip, though it’s parallel to the main runways at Coningsby…
Probably couldn’t see the steps for the Centaurus haze….
That’d liven up a cockpitfest!
Beautiful…
Bob,
I concur fully, and the same here…though I will be working at the Waddo show. I normally work at Legends but not this year…
Doesn’t excite me as much as the older lists did.
It appears the participants list is getting smaller, with fewer surprises.
Some people are never happy….
What aircraft are you supplying?
