A O-H states that PH-AMG came over between May 9th -11th 1937 and was flown before the Air Registration Board at Heston. No mention of a third example in the UK.
Cheers, Chumpy.
PS..Yes OK, I know what to do next…watch your inbox!!
..that 3-ship formation as mentioned by 92fis. from an old press photo in my collection.
By chance last week a photo of said machine on ebay, from a seller in the USA…I got outbid!
..item no 270415115688, still possible to nick a low-res scan if you search the completed listings!
Mike did you get the scans ….perhaps in your spam folder??
C.
No not back in the air yet, however the neccesary sheet-metal parts to effect repair, have been made by a certain company on the IOW.
These enroute to Canada, hopefully repair work will be completed in time for 3579 to appear at Oshkosh.
Cheers, Chumpy.
Sorry to be so nasty….the postcode for Barn House looks to be SL6 3QF should you wish to take a look via G.E. or Multimap etc. I had a quick fly-by no sign of any chickens.
In the meantime, work continues to reinforce my scanner extra pit-props required!

Aaaah.. another A.A. obscure aircraft thread!
Looking through the mighty Arthur Ord-Hume, British Light Aeroplanes volume, the Aerogypt is listed as being built by Mr Helmy at the family home at Barn House, Breadcroft Lane, nr Maidenhead.
This located just to the north of White Waltham airfield. This ties in with it’s listing in an old edition of Wrecks and Relics…’located at a house north of the airfield’.
Arthur makes no mention of any other production, just the modification of the one airframe. As you might be aware the purpose of the ill-fated last flight was a trip to Cairo, with a view to possible production in Egypt.
On last observation looking at that Air Britain shot of FFG, whilst the fuselage still looks pretty good. The tatty looking auxillary wing..call it what you will, Arthur describes it as a ‘Sky-Hook’ ..Sort of looks like it has just been dumped on top to keep the chickens a bit warmer!
Cheers, Chumpy.
PS Does my book now have to fall onto my scanner!!?
All that I can say for sure is that the porta-cabin cafe at Sandown has reopened…They do a very good bacon buttie!!
So no excuse for not visiting..come on down.

Baz,
I checked out the notes again today, the first shot shows a view of the southern perimeter road, edge of Loch Ryan to the right. The Sunderlands are SZ566, RN282, ML881, VB888, PP154.
The second shot view of Northern perimeter ML763 visible.
Also came across a vintage newspaper clipping from March 1960..everything must go!

Hi Baz…OK here’s another one, alas I have never been to Wig Bay so no real idea of the layout of the place. The photos only small snapshots so not exactly high-res.
They were taken by an old boy I knew (now sadly passed away), he was a keen spotter back in the 50s. The photos taken during a Scotland ‘bash’ in July 1955. I have his spotting log for the trip though strangely no entry for Wig Bay.
Not sure what the status of the place was back then, presumably still ‘active’ what with all the aircraft lying about. So perhaps a bit of sneaky visit, no written notes etc, the collecting of military serials / photography of air bases viewed with suspicion back then!

A view of Wig Bay taken July 1955, a scan of a snap shot from my collection….Check out all those moth-balled Sunderlands..oh for a time machine!
Digging through some old photos came across this shot of JZZ, on rebuild at Sandown..early part of 1987.
In the background is Fairey Battle R3950, seem to recall Charles Church acquired this with a possible view to getting it flying. But subsequently flogged in on, now in the museum at Brussels.
Chumpy.
‘JZZ also spent some time at the now defunct ‘Whitehall Theatre of War’ in central London. Remember going there in December 1983, a rather dark and bizzare set up I seem to recall!
JZZ spent 2 years on rebuild at Sandown, arriving August 1985. The attached shot taken just before her departure in August 1987.

..And another name for the heap Agricultural Avation, couple of rather grainy shots of their Tiger G-ANNI. Taken 1958, anyone know where they were based, details etc?
Also picking up on a point made by Planemike…the ‘aroma’ of crop spraying bases and aircraft. I can still recall the pleasent scent of Eau du Pawnee, Wickenby in particular being rather fragrant!!.. Shot of G-AZPA taken there, during a East-Anglian spotting bash back in 1975.

…doff’s forelock to GMS!…Is Arthur writing anymore of his massive volumes?
If so I will warn my bank manager!
