I thought the Bobsleigh had flown? Seem to recall an open day-type thing. Or has that not occurred yet?
DH.9! Had forgotten about that. Mosquito OK, P-39Q too but Spitfires or P-51s are not exactly exciting prospects.
Q.6? Oh yes please.
Seems strange to post and then expect no reply. Or maybe I can save you the cryptic posting and do one of my own each day but have the courtesy to explain to others what I’m rambling on about.
adrian_gray that is some ability!!! I could have written that a million times and no-one would have got it. You’ve made my day. “part time punks” wasn’t my next bit though 🙂
Here he comes, tra la la la la la…
Some of the people i know in that hobby are far from geeks. A few i know are soldiers and police officers infact. Oh and i have three Sons myself, the first one was born when i was 19 years old.
I know/knew plenty of people in the armed forces who are/were mega-nerds/geeks and had children too. The point is to not take it as a negative term, or pigeon hole people who might fit into the category.
And maintain a good sense of not taking things too seriously. Apart from good grammar. Or at least thats what i should of said (the last bit was irony by the way – no prizes for anyone who spots at least three grammatical errors).
One of my last trips to Hanningfield Metals revealed a couple of (B-52?) seat and a smashed F-86L canopy: both supposedly came from a container-load of mixed random aircraft parts gathered from around the Davis Monthan scrapyards and brought over for one of the Star wars films. The Manston History Museum had (has?) one of the other Hanningfield F-86L canopies, but fortunately not smashed.
Seen them twice: deeply impressive and aside from the Tupolev Bear, the closest thing you’ll get to the sound of a B-36!
RAF Museum.
Was that the Bristol Brutal?

Should never store a plane like that! Always on its side. Nice wood however. :highly_amused:
The Stanley one my dad gave me: needs sharpening every so often but it’s still a doozy.
They are still available but my WW2-vintage plane has a wooden handle. I think then new ones are plastic.
Shame it’s not restored as a Buchon with its correct canopy. I have to say big congrats to all but the scheme and config leave me a bit deflated.
There’s a lovely book out there by Phil Jarrett: plenty of detail shots. EDIT: I see it’s Fairey IIIF, but I’m sure it contains stuff on the IIID too.
