So those are 4 seperate crashes?

Nope: all the same one. He repainted the aircraft, dropped it in the sea etc for dramatic effect.

so you have checked have you?

Yay – serious thread drift there eh?

We started talking about Maurice Kirk, then via a few moments of stuffiness and a few scatterings of derisory/libellous statements we’re discussing a non-existent Austin 7.

    Good work :applause::applause::applause:

He has conned money out of others like this.
AND I believe the organisers asked him not to go.
    He does NOTHING for aviation.

Good luck with the slander case…

Night flying in a Cub? Adding up all his other antics, that fool is a disgrace to aviation. Incredible that he can still pull off these stunts and hasn’t been locked up for good. Who’s paying for his multiple rescues? Like Mathias Rust, he makes mock of the many private pilots who fly responsibly and abide by the rules, and creates an image of General Aviation as being a collection of gung-ho cowboys.

Oh yeah – and don’t get me started on that bloody Lindbergh bloke: who the hell does he think he is, flying solo across the Atlantic like that?

The sooner these people stop brightening my day with their larger-than-life exploits the better. A mundane world can only be a good thing surely?

This man is a legend. Not sure if his Cub is a D-Day veteran as I think the airframe purporting to have D-Day history was lost in the Caribbean.

However, whatever the provenance of his machine, he has led – and continues to lead – a life full of extraordinary exploits. I only hope he’s written it all down.

..and as published (earlier than the website) in Morgan and Shacklady.

If I had to point to a likely source for the error, it would be that book, which seems to have suffered the attentions of a mischievous six year old who has just discovered ‘cut and paste’. It was an admirable undertaking, and a great reference, but one that has errors in it that took effort.

A great way of checking for plagiarism I suspect. Repetition of errors is often an easy check for proper research.

Glad to see some nominations for interesting stuff which isn’t another bloody Spitfire replica.

    Overall length 78ft
    Overall height 30ft 1in

Sorry to go all pedantic, but the OP was looking for fuselage diameters

Well let’s try not to denigrate the highly praiseworthy efforts of the Typhoon project (I shall be donating), but the complexity of the Vulcan, let alone its requirement for DA support, complex and multiple systems, PFCU flying controls, ejection seats and so on and on surely puts the subject beyond doubt.

I would however fully support the argument that creating a replica Typhoon will take a considerable amount more work than a replica Spitfire!

If they can do it then that beats the Vulcan in my book.

    Moggy

Hardly, but definitely something to look forward to.

    No problems Tom and thanks,

I would add that if the Great War Forum draws a blank, you could try “The Aerodrome” site. Sadly it is full of semi abusive 12 year olds these days who go on endlessly about “Kills” instead of “Victories”; “planes” instead of “aeroplanes” ; “AAA” instead of “Archie” and “Fighters” instead of “Scouts” and have a complete library consisting of 6 letters (g.o.o.g.l.e). But there are still some of the old crowd kicking around, some of them even less affected by dementia than I 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Best regards

    Darryl

I could not have put that better myself. Except that for g.o.o.g.l.e also insert w.i.k.i.p.e.d.i.a.

I’d stick to Great War Forum: it’s a rare thing these days: a place of calm and knowledge.

As someone so nicely put it on another topic, “If I hear hoof-beats, I look for horses, not unicorns”.

Except that in this case there are no hoof-beats!
